I'm think our cluster of servers (norden, nrw, colgne, etc) are individually run, out-of-pocket, with minimal subsidies, and donations.

As I understand it, *most* servers in #HephalumpWorld are run like this.

I'm not sure on that, and likely wrong.

Either way, I try to slip my server a little somethin' when I can. It's not much, I'm poor. I wish I could do more, but you know how poverty works.

I encourage you to tip your server, as well.

I think I really hit the jackpot on my first pull, picking my server because it was closest to me, physically.

Mainly because they put up with my shit. 🤣 I have a tendency to skate on thin ice, so to speak, and they've let me know when I get too close to the edge.

I'm aware I'm mixing metaphors.

Anyway...

I received a #Yahoo breach settlement check in the mail today. It was (quite) a bit more than the typical <$5.00 I was expecting, so I bumped up my Mastodon instance donation. Remember to #TipYourServer

I read all the instance and server brouhaha as it floats by, and I thank my lucky stars I ended up @ social.cologne, simply because it was closest to me physically.

I'm probably one of their bigger CPU/disk space/bandwidth hogs, and have caused moderation issues in the past, but they continue to put up with my shit, and have let me know when I've gotten too ripe.

I appreciate them, and try to slip 'em a few Euros when I can, which, unfortunately, isn't as often as I'd like.

As far as servers go, I hit the jackpot when I came to #HephalumpWorld and chose one relatively close to me, geographically.

They put up with my shit, and let me know if I'm going over the edge, so to speak.

Am I just lucky that the very first Server I picked off the list because it was closest (@social.cologne) has been very, very good to me?

I'm pretty sure I'm one of their bigger bandwidth/storage eaters, and they put up with my shit.

I know I've caused issues with moderation; I love that they were brought to my attention when they occured, and I could correct.

I send 'em a few 💶 here and there when I can; I wish I could help more.

I get that people migrate instances for various reasons. I am quite happy with social.cologne, and have no plans on migrating. After all, they put up with my shit, as well as my bandwidth hoggery.

And they do It for free!

I'm quite happy with my local server. When I look at the local feed, it looks like I'm one of their biggest bandwidth hogs 🐷, and they continue to put up with my nonsense, so kudos to them!

I live in Portland, OR, USA with my partner and 2 kids. I met my partner #SwingDancing and #BluesDancing, and I'm hoping to get back to those as the pandemic eases up.

We need denser buildings to free people from driving, #LandTaxes and #WealthTaxes to focus resources on people and projects that need it, and #SystemsThinking to make lasting changes. #TipYourServer to help with that last one.
