Is anyone else baffled or confused (or feeling gaslit) by the difference between the govt’s announcement of the 3 free hours of electricity under the “Solar Sharer Offer” from 1 July & what they’re hearing from electricity providers?
My electricity rate unit costs went up by 10% but there was no mention of the “Solar Sharer Offer” - I searched all documents sent including the 25 page ?contract? - or what was it? No one knows but I was told I must read it. But not WHY I must read it. By that stage I’d already tried to read or puzzle my way through several pages of goodness knows what… all seemed designed to baffle me. And I can read pretty good. Imagine if you cannot. 😐
When I rang I was told - after pressing 20 buttons confirming I really did want to talk to someone - that I was 69th in the queue. An hour & a quarter later they rang me back & now it gets even more complicated. Apparently electricity providers are only required to have one service that offers the 3 free hours of electricity - so not everyone gets it - according to them anyway and the stressed out person who called me back kept assuring me that he 1. Couldn’t speak for the govt (I hadn’t asked him to), 2. had no idea why I’d been sent the 25 page contract - like had anything changed? No idea; & 3. said he wouldn’t spend time reading it either. Unable to clarify why no free electricity for me… nor why I get price hikes. ☹️😐🫤🤔
Off to see my local MP tomorrow. It looks like some get a few hours of free electricity while others get price increases.
Edited to correct the name of the “offer”.
