CW: identity far east geopolitics
Thinking about two #sinosphere ethnic grouping: #Han vs #Hua. Han describe the biggest ethnic group inside China; Hua are the overseas diaspora of Han: Mandarin/Hokken/Cantonese speaking Singaporean/Malaysian identified themself as Hua; strangely when giving options of the two, many Taiwanese would identified themself as Han (not Hua); this is also how Japanese colonial officials called us. Can this be explained by the collective Chinese/Taiwanese identity duality?
