E.g The Odyssey is based on an ancient Greek epic song.

("Wasn't it a book?" no, as the Greeks didn't have writing at the time.
"Wasn't it a poem?" Rhapsodes in ancient Greece would sing the epics to music, and English has a word for poems sung to music: "song".)

The other is the unauthorized Mexican adaptation of Pedro Navaja (Rubén Blades' remake of Mack the Knife for 1970s NYC)
