The Zhang grandpa's words are full of resentment and jealousy. He doesn't even know or understand what these "ancestral-type figures" are actually like, he had no idea about their true temperament, yet he has a fixed idea of how he thinks they are and presents it as truth. Scary.

On a more serious note, I really like all the hints that the Zhang family and other clans invented many of the beliefs that newer generations of Panguan hold about how things should be. They created these ceremonies and rituals, which actually have no basis in anything Chen Budao told his disciples. People simply assume they are authentic just because someone claimed that "Chen Budao did it this way."
This, combined with Zhang Wan's revelation about the disciple who switched the fates of Mount Songyun and Liu Village, makes the Zhang grandfather seem deeply sus. I don't think he has good intentions at all

I also love Xia Qiao. I really want to pat him and console him every time.
