A New Zealand milk token:

I hardly knew what this was when I saw a little dish of them at an op shop, but I knew I wanted one. I picked on out and the cashier expianed they were milk tokens, which did not really explain anything.

My friend - who is the same age as me but grew up here in New Zealand - remembers milk delivery when she was a kid and explaind it to me.

So with door to door milk delivery, you put out your empty, cleaned milk jars for the "milk man" to pick up when he delivers your milk. You put the milk tokens into the empty jars to pay for next week's milk! (where and when you buy the tokens has not been explained to me).

While this one is metal, she remembers plastic ones in different colours, signifying what type of milk you wanted.

This one appears to be from a dairy in Petone, an area of Lower Hutt, which is the city I live in.
