ok, time for more #InkPrint bullshit. gonna first of all test the pH of all the different sensitizers and then also just stick them in my photoreactor to see what happens. Might also just check pre/post exposure reactions with different developers like ink print or cyanotype

Prepared a bunch of new variations on the original recipe using different sources of Fe3+ (ferric chloride, ferric sulfate, and mixtures of both) and different acids (oxalic, citric, tartaric and maleic). Once I have the energy I'mma coat them onto some paper and do text exposures. I'm especially curious to see what's going on with the mix of ferric sulfate and ferric chloride in the original recipe and if that actually does something

ok, so, the diffuse light box definitely wasn't the ideal choice, barely any contrast there. probably also overexposed. maybe closer to 20 minutes would have been better?
I think I'm gonna try this again with my remaining piece of paper and a spotlight this time to hopefully get something more interesting

so, the original recipe works. It's pretty low contrast, mostly cause the concentration of the sensitizer is kinda low I think.
Also, it's weird. I have so many questions. Why do they use both ferric sulfate and ferric chloride? Why not just one? If it's only about the Fe3+ there is no reason to use two different sources of it.
Also, they use tartaric acid instead of citric acid. Apparently that's more sensitive?
Also, I already know it doesn't work with oxalic acid because oxalic acid reduces the ferrogallate ink and makes it water soluble. (That's why I assume it's in the developer, to help clear the highlights?). But what about other acids like malic or maleic acid?
Also also, I know the usual ammonium ferric citrate doesn't work since that results in some kinda soluble ammonia ferrogallate complex forming, so the image just floats away. But what about straight ferric citrate or ferric tartrate? That would make the sensitizer way less acidic and more friendly to work with.I sense spreadsheets
