Childhood memory: We moved when I was 12 which resulted in changing schools. I had long hair, wore jeans and a t-shirt, and a Jean jacket at registration. Since we changed states, my records weren't readily available. The admin promptly registered me in remedial and low average classes based on my appearance and the neighborhood we lived in.
A few weeks later I was called to the office. My teachers had a meeting with him prompting a review of my records that had recently arrived. I was called in to be given a new class schedule because I was being moved to the "honors" group. I didn't care about the work. I was more upset about being moved away from the few kids I knew and taken out of shop class.
One plus of being flagged was that I didn't get in trouble for popping the locks on the classrooms rather than sitting in the hall waiting to be let in.
