Well, my techie masto neighbors, it's that time again...
#EducateMePlease
#fakeOS? (see captions)I bought this cheap non branded #i15 mini #phone online to use on my bike. It claimed to have Android 14. But in checking for updates I see that it's actually Android 8. Not a big deal for a cheap phone, but then... If in the About view it shows 14, this isn't a solid OS. It's been tampered? The icons were wrong too.
If I don't use bank and email apps on it, what's the worst that can happen? 😳

Okay, latest progress on the #fakeOS!
The biggest changes involve the development of a Global Menu, placed inconveniently at the bottom of the screen, and a new method for setting and changing the wallpaper.
-
Progress! I now have some boot text, very basic window management, and a launcher functionality. The browser is going to be hard to figure out, but I'm loving the terrible design so far!
-
After a little bit of design and fiddling around, I present the "first boot" of my fake operating system, luluOS. I'm building it in Adventure Game Studio!
-
Ideas for a profoundly terrible retro #fakeOS I want to make:
✅ Mouse cursor that points down and to the right
✅ Windows are all different shapes. There are circle windows, and triangle windows
✅ Most apps require you to scroll in inconsistent directions
✅ Instead of a proper Dock, minimized windows just move to random edges on the screen.
✅ No unified visual toolkit whatsoever
✅ Filesystem has the worst traits of Unix, MacOS, and Windows
✅ Instead of right-clicking, you click both mouse buttons at once, and can then only use the scroll wheel and spacebar for navigation
✅ Bumping any corner of the screen even slightly results in aggressive window management features
✅ Notifications are ephemeral, but clicking on them does nothing, and there's no system tray.
✅ Search looks up antonyms in a dictionary and presents you with the opposite of whatever you want.
✅ Banner ads and pop-ups everywhere!
