#EbikeRides Well, that makes 53 miles ridden this week so far after todays 11 mile ride.
Battery was down to 11% when I got home. So it's on charge. It claimed to have 7 miles range left in it.
A windy and cold ride, had to put my fleece jacket on because the medium thick jumper wasn't enough the other day. It's the middle of May and the daytime temps aren't getting above 11-12ºC at all.
Strong cross winds, so the ride out and back weren't hampered to much by headwinds. Only a section where I turn back towards town for about a mile.
It also decided to rain for a few mins when I got to the bench I take these pics from. There I was sat, getting wet and I checked the solar generation back at home and it was brilliant sunshine and 4kw of power being generated... I'm 5.5 miles away getting wet and chilled to the bone... go figure.
I think the cold did get to me though... I'm exhausted and tired now... I feel like I should go for a lie down for an hour and watch a movie... But.. I know that if i fall asleep... I won;t be able to sleep tonight. So I'm gonna drink loads of caffeine instead and cross my fingers.

#EbikeRides time again. It was very cold and very windy today. So I only did a 10 mile ride. But that's 42 miles ridden so far this week already, and enough battery left to do at least another 15 mile ride on Friday (it's supposed to be nice then, and wet on Thurs).
I also found out that the cycle route has been extended another mile or two across the top of the forest to another small town.
So technically, the 18 mile ride I sometimes do to the edge of the forest, can be a 22 mile ride without the need to try and ride through, very rough, stony fire roads in the forest itself.
But I will wait until much warmer weather to attempt that.

#EbikeRides my current view once more, tide is out... I really need to check them before I set off.
Weather is chilly with a strong breeze, temps around 11 degrees, but the sun keeps poking out from behind the clouds, and that warms you nicely.
Expecting a strong headwind on the return 8 mile journey.
But that makes 32 miles ridden in 2 days.

My current view, out on one of my #EbikeRides this morning
#altxt are all views across woodlands, fields with blue skies and mountains in the background

#EbikeRides time again.
Weather has been good this week, the wind... not so much.
But I have managed 41 miles so far since Sunday over 3 rides. So I've got that going for me... which is nice. There's still 29% battery left from this charge, so if it's good on Saturday, I can get out for another 10-12 miles at least.
Got down to the estuary again today, and the tide was in. Sat on the bench overlooking it for a while, just relaxing in the sunshine.
Took the usual shot towards the mountains for a gif at the end of the year on the way back.
Hit a strong headwind on the return journey. But changed tactics, so for the first 2.5 miles where it's most open countryside. I used level 2 assist and high gears. But the battery level was dropping fast, so when I crossed over the river and can ride along slightly more sheltered sections for the next few miles, I dropped into level 1 assist and lowered the gear. So I rode slower, but without draining the battery as much.
I normally like to ride around 12-15mph, and my avg speed over the last 1000 miles is about 12.5mph. It's a nice steady speed without overexerting myself, and the pedal assist cuts out at 15.5mph anyway. So when I get a tailwind and am cruising along at 16-17mpg... it's all under my own power with no assist. Which is why I can do 8 miles on 6% battery. But with a headwind, use 18% on the return trip.
I hope that my cardio will improve again... I've been feeling a little sluggish and drained lately.
Tried to make sure I take my B12 pills every day rather than forgetting for weeks at a time. Also getting out in the sunshine for a vitamin D boost... and being out in the countryside can help with hay fever allergies. Since moving here almost 4yrs ago, I've noticed an improvement in my allergies... fresher air, less city pollution really does help.

#EbikeRides That was a tough one... very cloudy out, could barely see the mountains. Tailwind on the outbound journey, so hardly used any battery... 5.5 miles on 5%.
But I could feel how strong the wind was at my back... So I stopped at my usual spot to take these pics for a gif at the end of the year... and then came home.
Required a lot of extra legwork to combat the wind, and needed level 2 assist as well. So that 5.5 miles out on 5% battery, was 21% battery on the return journey.
Which means, 27 miles ridden since Sunday on 47% of the battery. Not great, but on track for at least 50 miles out of this charge. Weather supposed to improve for the next couple of days again. But lots of DIY jobs to do around the house, clearing the drains along the front of the house, cleaning down the drive and resanding to bind the blockwork together again after all of the building stuff that's been going on.
Then I get to do the same out the back... Yay!!! me.
Hence waiting for the sunshine again... it's wet work.

#EbikeRides time once more.
Weather is still good, and I was up nice and early, refreshed after a good nights sleep... Properly caffeinated and raring to get out there.
Very little wind at all out there today, just a gentle breeze. So aside from a quick burst in level 2 assist for that last hill... I rode the whole journey in eco mode.
Went all the way to the sea today too, but the tide was out when I got to the estuary.
Had a sit looking out towards the sea though, and watching hundreds of little bee's flying about pollinating from all of the wildflowers.
I then stopped on the way back to get the same pics I'm trying to every time... hopefully for a gif at the end of the year.
Forgot to take my drink with me, and it was rather warm out there... Not warm enough to get away with just wearing a t-shirt, so I had a light jumper on too. So stopped at a little shop that charged me £2.54 for a can of pepsi max and a small chocolate bar... and the chocolate bar was 89p... so a 330ml can was £1.65... disgusting.

#EbikeRides time again... it has been about 2 weeks since my last one due to other stuff going on... Like gale force winds and being tired and unwell.
So even though it's been beautiful sunny weather for the last 5 days. I couldn't get out in it until today.
Just a 12 mile ride, and me being the numpty that I am, managed to do the first 2.5 miles with the bike turned off before noticing... an only them as I realised on a slight uphill incline that it was harder work than normal. 🤦
A bit hazy towards the mountains again, tried to get roughly the same shot as I have previously... at the end of the year will try to remember to collate them into a gif or something.
Sat on a nice bench overlooking fields towards the mountains for a good 20-30 mins, sipping on a cold lemon drink.
Was very peaceful and calming... weather forecast is good for the next few days too... So battery is on charge, and I'll be ready to go again.
-
#EbikeRides day again, could really get used to this no job thing.
Sunny warm day again, so out I went.
11 miles again, took these pics from the exact same spot as yesterday.
I thought, I'd try and take the same pic each time I pass that spot, throughout the year and compile them into a gif or little video at the end of 2026.
That way you can see the change in seasons as I do, I am more of a fair weather rider though... so doubtful there will be many rides in the winter... I managed just 3 between 1st Dec and 1st March... and aborted 2 more due to it starting to rain as I got the bike out.
Not much wind at all today, so it was level 1 assist all the way out and 90% of the way back. So yesterday took about 25% of the battery to do 11 miles, due to the headwind and level 2 assist to keep at my desired 12-13mph avg speed.
Today, it was 11.5 miles and took just 15% which included the higher assist needed for those last 2 hills.
-
#EbikeRides time... it's been a while, only the 2nd time I've been out on mine this year. Weather, work and other stuff getting in the way. A couple of times, I went out to leave and the sky opened up... with rain... not some portal to hell.... because we're already living in it.
So it was only an 11 mile ride, had to do a level 2 assist all the way out due to a strong headwind... I like to keep to a steady 12-14mph avg speed. So that took 17% of the battery just to do 5.5 miles.
But the return journey had a tailwind, so a mix of level 1 and no assist at all when I was riding over 15.5mph which is the speed the assist cuts out. Tailwind meant a steady 17mph for a lot of the trip.
That meant the 17% battery on the outbound trip, turned into a 7% one for the return... would have been closer to 5% but for those last 2 hills that require some extra help.
-
Most of the roads nearest to me are b-roads, to get to the smaller single track roads... I have to navigate the more unsafe ones.
I've got a Haibike trekking ebike and post under the #EbikeRides tag occasionally.
It's a nice bike, 500wh battery, good for 50+ miles depending on use, a powerful 75nm motor which makes cruising in the lowest eco mode the most efficient one, going up a level or two for those hills... If I hit a strong headwind on a ride... which is common on the open flatter countryside as I cross about 5 miles of flood plains by a river... then I need level two, just to maintain a decent 11-12mph speed. but the opposite side of the journey has the wind at my back and i can ride at 15mph with the assist turned off.
Longest ride I've done on it was 27 miles, in 3 stints... and that was because I left my phone on a bench by the sea and had to ride back to get it after nearly making it home and stopping to take a pic of some nesting swans on the river bank. 🤦
Given that I have a disability and was unable to ride a normal bike more than a few miles and was exhausted... getting the ebike was one of the best purchases I've ever made... But I am a fair weather rider and have only been out on it twice in 3 months.
-
#EbikeRides The last time I was able to get out on the bike was the 27th Dec 2025.
But the sun hinted that it was trying to come out today... So I grabbed my bike and off I went.
The sun didn't come out... until 5 mins after I got home.
What did come out was a 20mph headwind that made riding out into the countryside a huge pain. I got 4 miles and used 20% of the battery as I required a higher level of assist just to keep a 10mph pace... and that's about 50% lower than my normal avg.
Even on level 2 assist, I was struggling to pedal as I normally would... and that meant my legs started to hurt quickly.
So after 4 miles, I stopped at a bench looking towards the mountains that were completely hidden from view, a bitter cold wind battering me across the flat landscape... and my legs feeling wobbly.
So I came home... and that headwind became a tailwind and I was cruising on level 1 assist at 16mph... which meant the assist wasn't even kicking in much at all (stops at around 15.5mph)... and did the exact same 4 mile journey using just 5% battery.
So that's 5% per mile outbound, 1.2% per mile homeward bound.
Pics are from another trip when it was actually sunny, just so you have some nice views to admire... Because I didn't.
-
Another beautiful day with clear blue skies. Went for a bike ride with my brother in law to a local small airport. Had a coffee watching light aircraft taking off and landing, along with the air ambulance.
-
#EbikeRides a few shots of how high the water levels are getting now. Another week of rain like we've been having and the paths will start to flood in a few areas.
-
#EbikeRides Sun was out and so was I... and no... not the closet before some bright spark thinks of that joke.
It was sunny and cloudy, there was a strong headwind on the outbound journey. So level 2 assist required using 19% battery to do 5.8 miles. The return leg was with a tailwind and required just 2% battery to do 4 miles.
The river is beginning to flood, the flood plains themselves are filling up and in some spots almost breaching onto the path. Another week like we've had recently and a 1 mile section of the route becomes almost impassable on the bike. Once you get on to the other side of a dual carriageway and major A road via the tunnel... the path is a little higher and less likely to flood more than a few inches in a couple of minor spots. But the section before that can flood for 1/4 of a mile or so.
The only other cycle route near me, can flood even worse as it runs up to the reservoir and dam. It's also a shorter route that can be cut short by 60%, meaning you only get a 3-4 mile ride.
More pictures of the flooding areas in the following posts.

#EbikeRides Sun was out yesterday, so I was able to get out for the first time in a couple of weeks.
Wind was strong as soon as I got outside of town onto the flatter open country side. The first mile is down through town, more sheltered and half of it through some tree lined path next to the little river that runs out to the sea.
I had to raise the assist level up to number 2 because the headwind was so strong. Only way I could manage a steady 12mph pace.
Stopped at the 6 mile mark for a breather and took the pics, before heading back. Didn't do the usual 15 mile trip as I had other things to do (DIY crap).
The ride back was excellent... tailwind for almost 5 miles... So a mix of level 1 assist and no assist at all and kept a steady 14mph pace.
It's interesting (to me at least) to see how much the assist levels affect the battery.
I left the house with a 77% battery, after doing 1 mile on level one and 5 miles on level 2, I had used 17% of the battery, or close to 3% per mile.
On the return journey, doing the first 5 miles in a mix of level 1 or even off used just 3% of the battery.
The last mile back home is sheltered but also several hills. Some shallow, some steep. So level 2 was used once more on those and a further 2% battery for 1 mile.
If you've done the math, that's 22% battery for a 12m ride, or just under 2% per mile.
Which should put me in the 50 mile range for this charge.
It's a 500wh battery (13.9Ah) and a 36v 75nm Bosch motor mid drive system. It's good for 'up to' 80 miles they reckon, but the best I've managed is 60 miles due to the hills on the return journey and the open country side that often means hitting a lot of headwinds in one direction or the other.
But an enjoyable ride, fresh air... moo moo's and baa baa's aplenty as well as lots of people out with the woof woof's... and a couple of annoying yip yip's.
-
#EbikeRides My current view, and for the 8th day in a row the promised sunshine has failed to appear... Instead we've had nothing but thick, heavy, low, grey clouds... And no view of the mountains at all.
It's cold, there's damp in the air and it's miserable. But at least it's not raining.
Had to get out of the house because dust and paint fumes were making me worse. Couldn't breathe properly, my eyes were streaming and I desperately needed fresh air.
-
I post every now and again under the #EbikeRides tag, usually just a few pics of the same old countryside in different seasons... views towards the sea and mountains.... occasionally some Moo Moo's, Baa Baa's, Neigh Neigh's and the very occasional 'OI!!! Get off my fucking tractor you arsehole' 🤔 😆
-
#EbikeRides My current view. Sun decided to come out for the first time in a week. Still very windy and have needed level 2 assist on the bike. Won't be doing the 15 mile ride today, stopped the 5 mile mark as it's hard work in this wind. 45% battery is down to 30% after 5.3 miles. So expect it to be around 15 when I get back.
New tyre and inner tube haven't failed, so I obviously did that right. 😆
No alt text today, both pics are of countryside and skies. The first towards the mountain's withe thick cloud and haze making them difficult to see clearly. The 2nd is back the way I came with some very clear skies.
-
#EbikeRides I was able to get out on the bike again between 11-12:30 for another 15 mile ride down to the sea. The tide was out in the estuary today though, plenty of wading birds about looking for a meal in the sandy pools dotted about.
Actually had a slight tailwind on the return journey this time.
Think I may have picked up a puncture though, the rear tyre felt flatter as I rode back into town and you could hear the sound of it flattening out more as you went around corners.
I inspected the tire and ran my hand all around it, couldn't feel anything sticking out. So I put it away for the day, and will check it in the morning. It'll either be flat or the same and just need pumping up.
I actually have 2 new inner tubes, that are supposed to be puncture proof, I bought them last year. But I lack the appropriate bike tools to fit them. Removing the wheel should be fine as it's a mid drive motor, not a rear hub motor... so there shouldn't be any odd wiring to work with and the rear should just come out like a normal bike.
I'll either see if I can get the tyre off or just pop it down to the bike shop, ask them to fit the new inner and maybe put a new tougher tyre on at the same time... I'd like to ride down the fire roads through the forest near my usual route, as that will take me to the actual beach... but those are rough chunky gravel/stone roads, with a lot of steep hilly sections. My current road tyres and vulnerable inner tubes aren't suited to it, my old bike at least had puncture proof inner tubes and chunky mountain bike tyres.
-
I was able to get out on the bike again this morning for a couple of hours. A 15 mile ride down to the sea and back.
Skies were clear and crisp, a slight headwind on the way back needed level 2 assist for some of the journey. So the 15.4 mile journey took 28% of the battery. Which means I'm averaging around 1.8% per mile.
I could get that lower, but the 5 miles of countryside I pass through... is so open, flat and exposed that even a slight breeze can slow you down as it always creates a headwind in one direction or the other.
Not a cloud in the sky above me, only some clouds over the far side of the mountains.
I sat and looked across the estuary for a good 20 mins, just breathing in the fresh air, listening to the birds and saying hello to a few doggos out on their walks (as well as their owners).
A few cycling groups were out an about too.
That makes about 31 miles ridden this week. I want to get out more often, but work and DIY keeps getting in the way, along with a general lack of energy some days.
-
Got out on the bike again this morning. After 3 days of torrential rain, we had some sunshine and semi clear skies.
A light headwind for the return journey, it was nice and warm in the direct sunshine, chilly when a cloud passed in front of it.
Temps outside were about 11-12ºC, it was jumper weather for me... won't be long before I need a jacket and my fleece joggers... might have to dig out my thermal socks too.
A 15 mile trip today, battery now on charge again, weather is looking ok for the next few days
-
#EbikeRides Well, it's windy and sunny out there folks.
Such a strong headwind on the ride out that I stopped at the 5.5 mile mark after needing level 2 assist the whole way aside from a short half mile stretch through a small bit of wooded paths. Even in level 2 assist, I was struggling to keep my speed close to my normal 11-12mph cruising level.
But it also meant that the ride back for 4 miles was with a tailwind. In fact it was such a strong tailwind that I turned the battery off for about 3 miles or so and still managed to keep my speed up at 16mph without any assist at all.
Which meant the 11 mile ride only took 22% battery, rather than about 30% had I needed the level 2 assist for the whole ride.
You couldn't even see the mountains today, the cloud over them was so thick, low and heavy. But overhead it was pretty good and what little cloud there was, moved fast with the wind. So solar gen today was quite good too for our system, and there was even a free energy session between 2-3pm... So I put the battery on charge for an hour to give it a boost, but only needed to import an extra 1kw of electric as the solar generation was hitting as high as 3.7kw and the 3.6kw inverter hit it's max limit of charging the battery and powering the home.
Sat on a bench for a bit looking towards the invisible mountains. Grabbed a short bit of video of the reeds on the bank of a stream feeding into the river (these are flood plains along a 4 mile stretch of my route) moving in the wind... sheep and cows in the field behind grazing.
Then I looked up and saw clear blue skies above and behind me.
It was a lovely ride out, hard work... but I really needed the fresh air to clear my head.
-
Well... I'm a complete idiot.
I forgot it was a bank holiday weekend here in the UK.
So guess who got up and started doing work at 8am until 11am?
Yup... this guy.
Once I'd realised it was already 10am, so I pushed on for another hour, got a head start on my hrs for the week.
Gorgeous weather out today, so I filled my insulated bottle with ice cold lemon barley drink, and went out on the bike for a couple of hours.
Crisp blue skies, a few tiny wispy clouds above the mountains in the distance and a strong breeze keeping you nice and cool.
That strong breeze, turned into more of a strong headwind as I hit the open countryside. So strong, I needed to increase to level 2 assist on the bike for about 5 miles.
But, it turned into a nice tailwind on the way back, so level 1 or even no assist for the trip home.
That ride makes 35 miles ridden in the last 7 days. A nice start after about 10 weeks of not riding at all through June, July and half of August.
Pushing a little further each time, so 11 mile rides twice and today was 13 miles. It was only the headwind that stopped me going further as I was going through the battery quicker than usual.
So I've done 35 miles on 68% of the battery, should be just enough to do another 15 mile ride if the winds aren't too strong.
-
#EbikeRides time again... it's been a week since my last one.
12 miles ridden today, went about 3/4 of my normal route because whilst cloudy, it was still very warm and I was riding into a headwind all the way out.
Lots of sheep, horses and cows in the fields, plenty of other cyclists out and about. The majority of cyclists I see these days are on ebikes too.
Desperately needed to get out into the fresh air and countryside... I'd had a headache all morning and my eyes & nose were streaming... I'd not even been outside since Weds due to doing work and other stuff.
But 3 day weekend here... Yay!!!
-
#EbikeRides Finally got out on the bike again after about 3 months of being too busy with DIY stuff, bad weather and a general feeling of 'Can't Be Fucked' 🤔 😆
Only 11.5 miles ridden... that was a struggle as humidity is high here today and it's about 27ºC outside.
Cloud cover over towards the mountains, but much clearer skies in the other direction... medium cloud cover overhead.
Very hazy towards those mountains too, hard to make them out.
Need to get out more on the bike... I've been feeling slow and lethargic lately.
-
#EbikeRides An 18 mile ride today, no problem I thought, and a nice easy 18mph avg cruise on the outbound trip.
Then the worst headwind I've encountered yet on the way back.
So it was level 2 assist all the way home just to maintain a 10mph avg.
So I did 30 miles on 48% battery last week. I was able to do two 15 mile trips mostly in level 1 assist mode, just level 2 for the last 2 short hills.
Today, 18 miles, half in level 1 and half in level 2 assist modes and level 3 for the hills.... 41% battery used. Just 11% charge left.
But that's 48 miles out the battery this time. That last 11% would be good for 8-10 miles with a tail wind like today.
The outbound trip was so easy and I was riding so fast, that I wasn't actually using the battery power at all a lot of the time. It only assists up to 15.5mph. So I did the 9 mile trip out on 8% battery... and used 33% for the return leg.
Had to stop for a break on the way back... a swan was wandering along the path, and I wasn't going to attempt to get close or ride past. After 5 mins or so, he flew off.
I checked the nesting ones near the path, but nothing has hatched yet. I'm not sure how long it takes for swam eggs to hatch, but it's been 2 or 3 weeks since I first spotted them.
Could barely see the mountains today, it's very hazy over them and a little cloudy overhead here today.
But it was good to get out, should have worn a jumper instead of 2 t-shirts, the only part of me that was warm was my butt from sitting on the seat and my hands because I wear wind proof gloves.
-
in that price range you'll get what you pay for... and it won't be great.
Avoid anything from halfords, their own bikes (carrera) are absolute garbage with controllers that fail after a few hundred miles.... I know, because I had 2 of them, first failed after 350 miles, they replaced it and 2nd one failed after 360 miles... then they tried to pull a load of bullshit to try and deny my consumer rights and I had to resort to a section 75 on the credit card to get my money back.
If you can afford a better budget, go for something with the Bosch mid drive system. The motor is in the pedal assembly and far superior to the hub motors fitted to wheels in the cheap (crappy) ones. Yamaha do a similar system, but I can only speak for the (fantastic) bosch one I have now.
I used to be the sort of person who would buy what was cheaper, I got burned far to many times... so now I buy the best I can afford without going for crazy expensive.
I ended up with a Haibike Trekking hybrid city bike for £1999 back in late 2023, aside from tweaking the chain and adjusting the gearing. It's been flawless, and the exact same framed bike from lapierre (both owned by Raleigh) had the lower power motor and smaller battery than the haibike, whilst costing £400 more. Mine was on sale reduced from £2699.
I can get 50-60 miles out of one charge, depending on hills. I've just done 30 miles in 2 trips this last week and have 52% battery left.
With a £600 budget, you'll either get a knackered bike, a cheap piece of crap (in my opinion) and probably some badly built cheap chinese knock off with a sketchy battery... and the probability of a lot of buyers remorse a little while down the road (just like I had buying from halfrauds).
I hope you get something good
I and others also post stuff (often pics) under the #EbikeRides tag too.
-
#EbikeRides another 15 mile ride out to the estuary again today.
That's 30 miles this week.
Didn't think I'd be riding at all this weekend, but the joiner let me down today.
Actually had a slight tailwind on the journey home. So that 15 mile ride today only took 22% battery vs the 26% battery last time.
Range on the remaining 52% charge is estimated at 38 miles. But I'll do one more 15 mile trip and then recharge... Last time I went out with 32% charge left, I made it back with 2% due to stronger than expected head winds on the return journey.
So far on the new bike, I've done about 700 miles. Which sounds great... Until you realise that's since Sept 2023 when I got it.
I don't ride as much over the winter, partly due to the weather and partly due to flooding on the cycle route I use that crosses flood plains. The only other cycle route near me often gets flooded too.
The only other option is to cycle on the back roads, which isn't that safe because they're narrow, twisty and hilly.
So very little winter riding... last year I was busy building out the garage conversion and lost 4 months ride time due to lack of energy or weather. So In the whole of 2024, I rode perhaps March-April and October to early December... then not again until early April... again partly due to doing DIY projects.
Now I'm trying to get out 2 or 3 times a week and do at least 30 miles or more.
Let's get that up to 1000 miles this summer.
-
#EbikeRides another 15 mile trip out on the bike today, and managed to do 15.1 miles in 61 minutes for an avg of 15mph.
Thanks to the tailwind on the way out, I was cruising at around 17mph in eco mode, whilst doing 11mph on the way back and occasionally needing level 2 assist for a few sections that were the most exposed.
Took a few pics from the same spot as usual at the estuary. Tide was completely out.
But all images show views of clear skies, mountains, forest and sand banks with a few patches of water amongst them.
-
#EbikeRides Going out with 33% battery left and a range of 23 miles according to he computer... Then having that moment of realisation when you are on your way home... that the reason the 8m journey out was easier than usual... is because of a strong tailwind... and not the cardio exercise improving your stamina.
So you have to raise the assist level out of eco mode into level 2... and watch the battery and range dwindle away much faster than normal... and you've got 2 hills to tackle at the end that really do require level 2 or 3 to get up them... and wondering if you'll have to walk the last mile pushing the bike.... 8 miles to go, 10 miles of range.... oh fuck.
I made it with 2% battery left and at best, 1 mile of range... But in reality, perhaps less than 1/2 a mile as it had been sitting on 1 mile range for a while.
It means I got about 55 miles out of the battery this time... Which is excellent because I did that long 27 mile trip last weekend and had to use level 2 & 3 assist for at least 12 miles of it, another 8 miles on level 2 today... That could have extended the range if left in eco mode by another 14 miles.
I don't fully understand how it calculates it, there's math that could but it's beyond me and involves working out how much power is being drawn by the 75nm motor and the speed/assist levels & so forth. But each level of assist seems to reduce the range by about 10-15%. So on a 100% charge in eco mode and on flat paths... it could be good for 70-80 miles. A mix of levels 1 & 2 like this week, and I still got 55 miles out of the 500wh battery. If I stuck it on level 4 at 100% charge, it tells me there's about 25 miles range.

"I've been online for longer than the internet. I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. 56k modems on fire in the light of Usenet. I watched IRC forks glitter in the dark near the Gateway 3000. All those moments will be lost in slop, like tears in rain. Time to deshittify."
I shamelessly stole that quote from a random post I saw on here. It perfectly captures my online existence and what I think about the current state of it.
I've been online since the mid 90's, usually through friends computers at first, before that I'd been tinkering with computers since I was about 12yrs old, from things like Commodore 64's & Amiga's as well as Atari ST's. I got my first PC with a modem in 98, I've been building my own PC's since 2000, but I'd been upgrading systems in some way since at least 91.
I remember the hope and promise it held and how that's been ripped away from everyone for lies, tracking, privacy invasion and a subscription to everything. If they could force you into a subscription service to breathe... they would.
I've been on Masto for 3yrs or so now. I deleted facebook in 2011, twitter in 2018 (not that I really ever used it) and shunned all others with the exception of G+ when that was good between 2011-2015.
Mastodon is my only social media platform now. I switched to beige.party because my previous instance went through a period of instability and was constantly down for a day or two at least 2 or 3 times a month.

Spooked some deer on my evening bike ride
#bike #cycling #wildlife #deer #ebike #ebikerides #ebikers #ebikegang -
Today's #EBikeRides was brought to you by the hashtags #SaddleSore & #OwMyBumHurts
I popped into the bike shop on my way out, to get the gearing adjusted. It was skipping 8th and would 7th into 9th, and then you had to step it down a gear to get 8th. The chain was also jumping of the front/rear if you tried to change into the higher gears quickly.
But another 16 miles ridden today, strong headwind coming home again. Feels like I've done 25 miles.
Pic from the other day, it's very hazy here.
-
First bike ride of the year completed.
It's been 63 days since my last one.
So I only managed 8.5 miles. It was very cold and a little breezy. Very overcast, but at least it was dry.
Didn't take my phone with me, so no pics. You couldn't see the mountains anyway due to cloud cover.
So here's one from a few weeks ago near #Cemas
Weather not looking good for the rest of week. Monday could be ok, then rain for 5 days.
May be a while before I can get back up to speed.
