Letter from the trenches:
Some minor things aside I could totally switch to Cosmic. A fresh whiff of air, solid, very snappy and, at heart, I'm a GTK guy. Only dealbreaker for me now: no window rules. They'll come, but at a later stage. I do expect this whole applets ecosystem to take off though. Improvement from alpha 7 to beta 1 is stellar!

NixOS has the specific feature to exclude packages from an environment, which is great for me. I don't need cosmic-edit or cosmic-player and probably cosmic-store neither. Removing them from any distro removes Cosmic DE, not so on NixOS. Works on KDE also (get rid of Discover et al).
Phenomenal feature for a minimalist like myself 🥳
