It's a bit over an hour until I take the #h5yr stage at #codegarden2024 to talk about the history of artificial intelligence in Being Human.
I'm grateful as always for the amazing folks here at #codegarden who've given me space to speak about something I'm so excited by. If you're here in Odense, I hope you'll come by. Of course, I'll share the video when it's publicly available later this year.

Transitposting mostly complete! I'm in Copenhagen, somehow it's four PM on Sunday despite Sunday morning never actually having occurred for me, and now I get to check into a hotel for two days before I catch a train to Odense and head to #codegarden2024
I've listened to some music I'd been meaning to give a bit of attention to (some old Kate Bush, some recent Peter Gabriel), finished the picross game on the Switch that I only ever play in transit, and reminded myself why I love Sayonara Wild Hearts by playing a few of my favorite stages/songs.
Starting to get very excited about my talk on Thursday, talking about the history of AI with a bit of a cognitive philosophy bent, hoping folks find the material as interesting as I do. (And perhaps hoping that people might be interested in a longer class on the subject. So much interesting material is on the cutting room floor to fit the talk to 30 minutes, and I'm realizing I miss the vigorous debate of my brief stint in academic circles.)

Getting to #codegarden2024 proceeds! Just touched down after a lovely flight into Helsinki, and it's just a long customs line and a short flight from here to Copenhagen.
Particular love on this trip to Stasis Sounds for Long Distance Space Travel ( https://pitp.bandcamp.com/album/stasis-sounds-for-long-distance-space-travel ), which is a wonderful soundscape for that strange liminal rest you try to get when a transatlantic crossing gives you a night that's only three hours long.
Also feeling both proud and humbled in my attempts to learn a little Finnish. I understood maybe a dozen words of the captain's Finnish-language announcements throughout the flight, and hearing spoken Finnish is a strong reminder of the distance between vocabulary drills and practical language skill.
