Today, we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the single market that came into effect on January 1, 1993, after the signing of the Maastricht Treaty on February 7, 1992. This wasn't just about the internal market, which is very important, but also about European citizenship (proposed by Felipe González), the euro, European political parties, the power of co-decision of this Parliament and its participation in the selection of the President of the Commission, as well as cohesion policy.

Let me remind you that the single market is the deepening of that first market established by the Treaty of the European Community for Coal and Steel, which had the mission - let's not forget it, it's written in the Schuman Declaration - to constitute a federation in Europe.

Here are some concrete proposals:

1. Strengthening European citizenship by giving citizens more say in the decision-making process.
2. Promoting the use of the euro as a single currency across all member states.
3. Encouraging the development of European political parties to foster greater unity and cooperation among nations.
4. Enhancing the power of co-decision of this Parliament in shaping EU policies and decisions.
