A short passage from newspaper reporter-turned war correspondent Ernie Pyle’s book, “Here Is Your War,” published in 1943. He was killed by a sniper on 18 April, 1945, during the campaign to take Okinawa, the final major U.S. land offensive in the Pacific theater of operations during World War ll. Ernie could really tell a story.
