BattleMesh is not just presentations — it's live wireless experiments outdoors: testbed setups, measurement campaigns, and protocol comparisons documented and shared afterward.

Fresh from the printer: BattleMesh v18 stickers.
We'll have them at the event in Gornji Karin — for laptops, routers, and whatever else needs a mesh on it.
Come grab yours, 7–13 September.

What topic would you like to discuss at BattleMesh this year?
Three tracks shape the week: mesh routing testbed experiments, community and political issues around connectivity, and OpenWrt development and deployment.
Routing, monitoring, community organization, hardware, firmware — or something completely different?

WEBCAST 7-13 SEP - Battlemesh v18
@battlemesh gathers in Gornji Karin, Croatia for a week of talks and workshops on mesh networking, wireless community networks and OpenWrt, plus a self-organised mesh running competing routing protocols side by side. Sponsored by the Chaos Computer Club, @freifunk and the Internet Society Community Networks & Infrastructures SIG.

Have you decided to come to BattleMesh v18?
7–13 September · Gornji Karin, Croatia
Adding yourself to the participants list helps orga with logistics — and lets others see who's coming. You can also note your dietary preferences there.

No printed event T-shirts this year.
We'll bring a screen printing stencil instead — so you can print the BattleMesh v18 design on the garment of your choice.
BYOT: Bring Your Own T-Shirt. Hoodie, bag, or whatever you've got — we'll have the stencil ready on site.
See you 7–13 September in Gornji Karin.

Many long-term collaborations started with a conversation at BattleMesh — from firmware projects to research partnerships and sister communities.
What are you working on right now? Routing experiments, a new node deployment, documentation, policy work — we'd love to hear.

Did you know?
BattleMesh is where mesh routing protocols are tested head-to-head in real outdoor environments — Babel, B.A.T.M.A.N., OLSR, 802.11s and more.
Projects like Gluon, LibreRouter and meshnet-lab grew out of conversations and experiments that started here.
What idea from a past BattleMesh has shaped your network?

What hardware are you planning to bring to BattleMesh v18?
Routers, antennas, SDRs, measurement gear, something unusual?
If you're joining the self-organized mesh testbed, coordinate on the mailing list or Matrix channel — different routing protocols need compatible firmware (often OpenWrt-based).
-
Still thinking about a talk or workshop for BattleMesh v18?
Routing experiments, FTTH deployments, OpenWrt hacks, community structure — all welcome.

Which BattleMesh edition was your first?
v1 in Paris (2009)? v7 in Leipzig? v10 in Vienna? v17 in Sundhausen last year? Or will v18 in Croatia be your first?
Share a memory, photo, or story from that event.

One of the core traditions at BattleMesh: deploy a mesh network on site, run multiple routing protocols (Babel, B.A.T.M.A.N., OLSR, 802.11s …) and compare them in the field.
Here's a talk from a previous edition on mesh routing and network resilience:

BattleMesh brings together community networks from Freifunk, guifi.net, ninux.org, NYC Mesh, and many more — across Europe and beyond.
Every network faces different challenges, but we share a goal: open, community-driven connectivity.
