I continued watching The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers.
Episode 2 started at BETA Mountain, where Earth's Bureau for Extra-Terrestrial Affairs is headquartered and where Dr. Owen Negata, a brain in a floating flat box, let the team know that the pirate who kidnapped Foxx's wife was offering intel for a trade deal. Negata's design is one of my favorites.
Heading to an outlaw planet gave us the outlaw alien bar scene that dovetailed with Cowboy Bebop episode 1.

Tonight I watched the first episode of Cowboy Bebop as part of my Appendix NO watching. It was my first time, but I immediately saw how it inspired Neon Odyssey and especially Avantis' Stardust Rhapsody actual play series.
Pyke and Rhett in Stardust Rhapsody are obviously tributes to Spike and Jet from Cowboy Bebop.
The noir and space western blend is rich with storytelling potential. The environments, from ship to planet, feel lived in.
And that music!

Tonight I started watching The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers from the beginning. I watched a handful of episodes countless times as a kid but now I'm planning on taking in all of them as part of my Appendix NO.
Episode 1 introduces family man Zachary Foxx, who fights a multi-species space pirate crew that initially sides with the evil empire and their queen before fleeing and abducting Foxx's wife. Great spaceships and interesting alien species were highlights.

D&D has long included Appendix N, which lists works that influenced the game and became recommended reading for players.
Maybe Neon Odyssey will include a similar official list in one of its books, but I'm creating my own Appendix NO list for the games I'll run.
Cowboy Bebop is a canon inspiration from the creators. Time Bokan and Galaxy Rangers haven't been mentioned as far as I know, but they're formative works for me and I expect experiencing them again will spark play ideas.
