Software development may be a foreign country for the business. To gain trust we need accountability.
-
To be on time 100% of the time we need to multiple the estimates by a factor of six.
-
Better to have no estimates than wrong estimates.
-
It is still guesses at the end of the day. But it is better to have some model than a perfect model.

eXtreme Programming is a foreign country. We do things differently!
-
People think software development is about writing code. It is not!
It is about:
Communication
Collaboration
Simplicity
Courage
Respect-- XP Values, @kentbeck

#AgileCam talk writeup!
In part 1, I've managed to tick off 0 out of the 10 things... if this rate keeps up, that means it'll take an infinite number of posts until I'm finished. Despite that, I'm still feeling confident I'm going to complete this series by the end of the quarter.
Am I right? Let's see if the next post (coming soon) gives us any more promising indicators...

Wrote my #AgileCam conference notes!
Some would say: it's important to leave these things several weeks after the event, to let you reflect and consider what's really stuck with you.
Others would say: you just never got your lazy self into gear and wrote them sooner.

Oh, I should tell you all about the actual talk! It was called Beyond Transparency and given at #AgileCam last Thursday.
I deconstructed the way "transparency" gets used and how it is known to work (or not work) to build trust and accountability. Then I proposed some ways to move on.
The slides don't capture it, of course, but they give a flavor if you are interested! https://www.slideshare.net/slideshow/beyond-transparency-elizabeth-ayer-agile-cambridge-pdf/272203766

@natpryce @westghost We had a story at #agilecam from a couple of developers who started using #ArchitectureDecisionRecords in their repository. It snowballed because coworkers in their team and around them saw these strange things pop up in their commits, got curious and copied it. Their only puzzle was that it was an experiment, and the format they chose initially stuck, it was not necessarily the best format. They were still happy though, as new #ADR s and decisions became cheaper.

On my way to Agile Cambridge #agilecam
to speak about the Shades of Conway’s LawI’ve finally managed to get this thing in my head.
Never mind, I have been so looking to this event. Finally, seeing the friends I’ve been missing all year long! 💜

Someone I look up to gave me this lovely pin at #agilecam 😊
I’m proudly wearing it now on my favourite worn out jacket.

On my way to #agilecam, finished reading The Tyranny of Meritocracy
This should be recommended reading for any politician wondering why the rise of populism (because they still don’t seem to understand).
Well, it’s the story of the winners vs the losers. The ones that can rise (coz higher education) and the ones that can’t.
It’s also the story about the loss of dignity of work (think finance industry that produce no value for society but earn tons of money vs people working in the factory). -
@RuthMalan thank you, Ruth 😊
Always so kind!
and yeay, @CatSwetel at #agilecam 🎊 -
@CatSwetel @kjscotland hehe 😜
Well, to be honest, I didn’t realise it either until being at #agilecam 🤷
But it was a great keynote 💪
you would have enjoyed it -
When stories are unclear, to many unknowns, plan a spike story to collect more information.
@hriskoleva #agilecam -
As a product owner you cannot slice a story without talking with the team. You simply do not know how big it will be or how complex without talking to the team.

The hard work starts with you, inside you,.
What would it feel Kine that sky yourself with the most marginalised part of yourself? -
Why is this a problem now?
Generative AI
-> now we can go in the wrong direction faster and bigger than ever!
Whether we want this responsibility or not, that is our reality.
-
The hard work start with you, inside you.
Listen to your intuition!!!If we have a weird feeling about something, listen to it. Why do we have this feeling now?
-
Why are we doing this?
People who are well served by a system are doomed to reproduced that system. Even with the best intentions.
-
Why do things have value?
Scarcity!!Is gold good for anything? It is worth a lot 🤷
=> be conscious of our world
Even when we thing we are underserved, we are still eligible to reproduce the same system

A new approach
We start from Experience
Then we look at Expertise
Then we move to Questioning
