  1. I disabled KDE's notification widget on my primary monitor (and set them to "do not disturb" on the secondary) last month, and it's been a notable improvement in my experience. Notifications on desktop are a scourge, make the computer work on your schedule instead of the reverse.

  2. #25 Rabid (1977)

I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of Cronenberg, especially the later era, but The Brood and Videodrome are two of my favorites. Even by those standards, this one is weird: an experimental skin graft causes a woman to develop a vampire armpit stinger that infects victims with super-rabies. I can't find anything that says Cronenberg was inspired by Typhoid Mary, but there's a lot of her story in Marilyn Chambers' unsettling performance, as she alternates between instinctive predation and blank innocence.

  3. #24 Demon Knight (1994)

A murderer's row of character actors, apparently this script went through like six great horror directors before it landed with Ernest Dickerson, best known as Spike Lee's cinematographer, and you can tell it lost a little budget and prestige every time. It's not terrible, but I think it has found redemption mostly because of how bad Bordello of Blood turned out two years later.

  4. Okay, DO account is closed, and I was clear about why I left in the exit survey. I'll probably have to migrate my server in Atlanta this weekend, but it's mostly static hosting, so (famous last words) shouldn't be a big deal.

  5. #23 Vampire Circus (1972)

A lot of the Hammer horror films are set in Generic Eastern Europe in a way that feels very British. In this case, the titular circus comes to a village named Stetl, performs alternating sexy/disturbing acts, and then immediately starts seducing young people into vampirism and/or gymnastics, I'm not really sure. Also stars the kid who played the headmistress' creepy son in La Residencia.
