when San Francisco banned the 1908 launch of the fraudster Morrell balloon, he launched from Oakland instead, and it went about as well as Elon Musk's launch of Tesla driverless.

You want accountability? Bush made the Trump monster, as I wrote in 2008:
https://www.flyingpenguin.com/the-manipulation-of-conservatives/
"...a vast group of Americans apparently are so unable to process information that they have become highly vulnerable to manipulation (social engineering, foreign influence) in a very, very bad way. And that is probably exactly what Rove wants."

The magazine founded by abolitionists in 1857 just ran a story about a worker who calls his own situation exploitation, and it published that as a heartwarming hero story with a hat passed around for aristocratic gifts.

i don't know why people follow me, but I'm here to say The Atlantic reporting about PHP needs to be torn to shreds.
Surý spends his entire interview dismantling the reporter's presumptions: he says people could get PHP elsewhere or compile it themselves, of course, credits the PHP project for bringing him into the pre-release group, naturally, names Freexian as ready to take over, because why not, and says the day wasn’t stressful!
Then The Atlantic reporter still tries to gin up "oh no" FUD and hero worship? WTAF. The Atlantic used to be abolitionist, and here it's pumping a slavery model. I wouldn't line my birdcage with what they wrote.
Surý names exploitation and then the article turns him into the deserving servant and invites the public to tip him! Tipping is slavery. I guess I'll write it up, as I cancel my Atlantic subscription.

always the same shit with these Nazis. Palantir is an embarrassment to tech and gov.
"Corbyn slammed the letters from Mosley as intimidation. 'I am in no doubt as to why Palantir is writing these letters to MPs: to intimidate its critics into silence,' he told Novara Media. 'Their tactics of intimidation will not work and they will not shut me up. I will never be deterred from speaking out against Palantir, which should have no place in our public services whatsoever.' Palantir, co-founded by billionaires Alex Karp and Peter Theil, has close ties to the Trump administration."

Me: Stanford was a fraudster who committed genocide.
Him: The guy the school is named after?
Me: The guy
Him: If that were true the school wouldn't be named after him.
Me: Right. It shouldn't be.
Him: Can't be true. I can't believe you because nobody would use his name.
Me: What if I told you that people like Trump?
Him: I can't believe you. This can't be true. You aren't believable. If Stanford were so bad, he wouldn't be popular. -

"The Bush name is nearly synonymous with the rise of the Republican Party in Texas... redrew the U.S. House map to enhance their advantage..."
And then Bush said:
"...'character matters more than party affiliation. Our democracy depends on leaders who respect our institutions, tell the truth, accept accountability, and seek to unite rather than divide.'"
Remind me how Al Gore lost again?

"The first-ever award for artificial intelligence went to the city of Bamberg. Its BaKIM project analyzes drone images, identifies tree species, and is intended to make it possible to spot weakened trees early. Since April 2026, other municipalities have also been able to have their own images analyzed through a web application. The software, models, and training data are freely available, according to the OSBA."

it cost me eur 200 to replace two water pumps, which will now save me at least eur 100 / year, and allow saved energy to go to better use.
and then I found out that these old pumps have been banned since 2015? wat. or should I say watt?!
regulation is the mother of innovation. the new pumps are a wonder of technology. I wish we had even stricter energy conservation laws.

"...technicians meticulously desolder the pricey flagship’s GB202 silicon and GDDR7 memory chips. They then transplant the components into a dual-slot blower design tailored for server use..."
in the early 90s I managed a team of veterans who desoldered chips, and they all were depressed about how the American market didn't want their skills.

as it was just explained to me, if GDPR bans the practice of AI model development, then the violating AI models should be banned.
instead, the models violating copyright and privacy are allowed to do business. this lack of enforcement makes the ban into favoritism for the worst abusers.

just had an interesting discussion about AI lacking a coherent governance model and I kept thinking of this:
"...rather than a 'colonial America,' we should speak of an Indigenous America that was only slowly and unevenly becoming colonial. By 1776, various European colonial powers together claimed nearly all of the continent for themselves, but Indigenous peoples and powers controlled it..."

Funny how web isn't Web now.

Went to big hardware store for a cable and the shelf was priced wrong. I told the store. Oh boy, they got very angry and told me I shouldn't go around pointing out mistakes.
Well ok then, Prussian state that requires obedience and discipline, because nobody can be //seen// to be wrong. Heinrich Mann's "Der Untertan" described 1918 like this, bowing to those above, kicking those below.

remember this?
"...a letter signed by over 100 former Republican national security officials stating that while they, alumni of every Republican administration from Reagan to Trump, 'expect to disagree with Kamala Harris on many domestic and foreign policy issues' they also 'firmly oppose the election of Donald Trump.'
[...]
The message coming from Washington’s foreign policy elite, many of them directly responsible for the counterproductive and failed U.S wars and interventions of the last 40 years, is loud and clear. They do not like, trust, and indeed, perhaps even fear, the return of Trump..."
everyone who knew, knew, and said so. both sides of the aisle. it was nearly a 1,000 of the top American experts in failed wars who said Trump would be worse than anything ever seen.

I should clarify, Trump goons are using social media to claim a very isolated tiny thing not to worry, nothing to see, after dozens of bases are evacuated and the DNI is literally pulling the general fire alarm with words like "alleged assassination plots by Iran must reach more US personnel than are currently authorised to receive it".
Think about how sinister and cruel MAGA is to throw away lives of American soldiers and diplomats.
Putin is so weak, and yet Trump as his slave is killing his own people.

DNI downgrades classified intelligence to urgently rush US gov officials out of Middle East.
America in huge retreat unable to defend its own military, unable to defend its diplomats, unable to defend its allies.
Trump threw it all away. #Epsteinfiles

I ran a counter drone research project in America in the early 2010s, and presented to state and federal gov. I co-authored AI battle doctrine in 2016. All of it thrown out by Trump. I can explain exactly when and why this happened:
"'We are sitting ducks,' one said [describing] the Iranian drones that targeted their base: 'You can’t see them at night. They have no lights and are GPS navigated via coordinates. [...] We had no defense against the drones.'"
America has lost so much, so fast, as the military went from dominant to ducks.
