My new passport has arrived. No, it does not have Trump's picture!
I renewed it online on Apr 16 and they said it should arrive around Jun 2, so I received it a month earlier than expected.
With my cancer and mobility issues, I think my days of international travel are behind me. If I didn't already have a passport I don't think I would apply for one. But since I had one, I thought it would be a shame to let it expire.

There are warnings here for a major winter storm from Saturday evening to Monday morning. I just got an email from the library that they will be closed on Sunday due to the pending storm. So they're taking the warnings seriously.

The next round of my chemotherapy pills (Lenalidomide) have arrived. I have to be alert and watch for the delivery because the pills have to be signed for. Usually they are delivered by a small FedEx vehicle, not the big boxy one. But today the guy was driving an SUV, maybe his own personal vehicle. To make conversation I said, "You fooled me. I was watching for a FedEx truck." He said, "Yeah it got smashed up."
Whoa!

I just went outside to shovel snow off my steps and porch because I have a grocery delivery later today. Temp was 11F and wind chill was -9. But better today than tomorrow. Tomorrow's predicted high is zero!

I guess I should put away my porch furniture today.

I mowed my lawn today. That doesn't sound like much but a year ago I was in a wheelchair beginning a 3 month stay in a rehab facility to learn to walk again. When I was discharged I was using a walker. At home I went from the walker to a quad cane and then a regular cane. And now in the house, where I feel safe, I'm not using a cane at all.
So mowing my lawn felt like a big deal!

I have a question for the ham radio folks here. Does anyone have any comments or opinions about the Alinco DR-06TA? It's a 50 watt monoband 6 meter FM transceiver. I have no experience with this radio at all but I'm kind of interested in it.

I've now completed 10 rounds of radiation to shrink what was left of the tumor and this week I'm starting chemotherapy for those other areas of cancer.
When I fell I fractured my left scapula. My left arm has been in a sling with no weight-bearing allowed. But the sling came off today. In therapy I switched from a little hemi walker held in my right hand to a normal walker and my walking immediately felt better!. So that's good!

So the last couple of months have been, um, interesting. Here's a quick summary.
On May 5th I fell and couldn't get up. I called 911 and the EMTs took me me to the ER where an MRI showed a tumor on my spine that was compressing nerves. It also showed other spots of cancer elsewhere on my spine and chest wall. A neurosurgeon removed most of tumor. I was discharged to a rehab facility.
The cancer diagnosis was multiple myeloma.

I've lived in Michigan for most of my adult life but I grew up in NY state about 25 miles from Cornell. I remember visiting Sapsucker Woods, their bird sanctuary area, when I was in high school.

We found this A/P etching by Dennis Ward in a vintage place in Leith today. Titled ‘Confrontation at Brodgar, Orkney’, it has a brooding light-and-darkness quality reminiscent of many of Orkney’s landscapes.
It turns out Ward was latterly Professor Emeritus of Russian Studies at Edinburgh University, and in fact the first Professor of Russian there, and was chair of Edinburgh Printmakers in the late 1990s.
