This song is better known for the cover Mina sang. The composer and original singer is Gino Paolo though.

He was really famous in the 60s-70s, a golden age for Italian music.

Another of his hits is Sapore di Sale. My mother used to sing it while cooking (title translation: the taste of salt)

  2. #TIL that these are called a #volume in #bouldering. In bouldering, there are #paths, which are well-designed #climbing routes, to practice specific skills used in bouldering. In a bouldering gym, a path is built with plastic elements called volumes. This volume is part of a path made for kids, and has the shape of an elephant in a #cartoon #style.

EXIT: Not a volume but a grip! (See reply to this for details - thanks @codebyjeff )

  3. Every time someone asks me,

"What is your opinion of AI?"

    I answer,

"What is your opinion of food?"

Are you a foodie? Do you know about farming and pesticides? Do you have a sweet tooth? Do you have a favorite cuisine? Do you think we should learn to eat insects?....

"AI" is a monster umbrella topic, and everyone who wants to talk about it seems to have a specific aspect in mind that they want to discuss, rather than "AI"

Which why, IMHO, there are so few productive discussions about it.

Pick a topic and ask about that, not "Let's discuss food"

(If you want to. I filter out the phrase where ever I can, so won't even see this post)

  4. It's amazing the number of times over the years (this isn't our first recession, I think everyone here is old enough to remember)

where I've seen a job available post...

and then almost right after it, someone looking who'd be a good fit...

and because of timing, or distractions, or filtering, they just missed it and I was able to point them to it

We'd all like to fix the world, but we're all pretty tired. A small thing you can do is just subscribe to & keep your eyes open to help out if you remember something helpful

So much of hiring these days is really pure luck - let's help folks Get Lucky

  9. It occurred to me recently that, as I enter the later stages of my life,

and begin to visit doctors who are only now emerging from America's medical schools,

that I may soon visit a doctor who only knows how to print their name illegibly....

  10. *sigh*

Older daughter at her master's degree graduation ceremony...

Younger daughter on the bullet train to Tokyo to spend two days meeting with future workmates at the job she accepted...

And Mom & Dad spent all morning getting them out of bed on time, driving them to the station, packing boxes for the movers to collect tomorrow morning...

  11. Like #dogs ? Live in #APAC timezones? Have #webdesign chops?

I stumbled on this small volunteer opportunity while looking around for myself; I don't think I really have the design skills for what they want, but I'm sure we can collectively find them someone

They only want someone for a handful of hours per week to spruce up their site & online presence

  12. OTD - Davy Crockett and around 200 others are killed at the Battle of the Alamo (1836)

Your reminder (?) that the Texas Succession from Mexico - when the "Heroes" of the Alamo gathered round - was fought because Mexico had outlawed slavery, and the Texans still wanted it

How do you get your manager to understand that the number of programmers and the number of QA & management people should be (very) roughly equal?

I assumed in this day and age you couldn't become a manager without reading "The Mythical Man Month", but maybe it is so old that younger people simply were never introduced

I have 18 tasks in review or acceptance testing, and my manager frustrated because "I'm working too fast"

this, after we hinted to him to sort out his pipeline & instead he hired another dev because "there's a lot of work coming up" 🤷

and a reminder - repairing things is a lost art.

if you know how, make a video explaining next time you fix something
