One can never have enough versions of the #catppuccin theme for #Emacs, so I've made one more! (https://github.com/bbatsov/batppuccin-emacs)
Read all about it here https://batsov.com/articles/2026/03/29/batppuccin-my-take-on-catppuccin-for-emacs/

I've put together asciidoc-mode (https://github.com/bbatsov/asciidoc-mode) - a super lean major #Emacs mode for editing #AsciiDoc documents, powered by #TreeSitter
It's a lighter and simpler alternative to the more established adoc-mode (also maintained by yours truly), that has been sitting in the back of my mind for a while and became possible recently when a TS grammar for AsciiDoc was created.
I hope you'll find the new mode useful!
@sanityinc Can you help me get it in MELPA? (https://github.com/melpa/melpa/pull/9850)

Hot on the heels of the first #neocaml release, I'm very pleased to share that neocaml 0.2 is out today with many improvements! (see the release notes for details https://github.com/bbatsov/neocaml/releases/tag/v0.2.0)
I hadn't had so much fun working on an #Emacs project since the early days of CIDER, so progress has been pretty fast. Big kudos to the brave early adopters for their valuable feedback!
And a huge THANKS to @sanityinc for helping me get the package on MELPA and providing A TON of great feedback!

And the first "stable" release of #neocaml mode is officially out https://github.com/bbatsov/neocaml/releases/tag/v0.1.0
Friday 13th is a great date to go live, right? :D

@bbatsov Exactly, if you made research on #Python programmers, you would get quite different results (we all use #reStructuredText ).

@bbatsov on stage with his usual humour #rubyday #rubyday2023 rubocop is getting LSP support!

Why can't we have good (better) defaults?

#irreal and @bbatsov about #Emacs startup time: https://irreal.org/blog/?p=12903
I, too, am totally convinced that it really doesn't matter if it is one or sixty seconds.
However, if your bootup time is much longer than mine (15-30s once a week) then you most probably have room for improvement (if you want). Consistent use of #usepackage with dependencies and "defer" did help on my side.
My config has 7724 lines of #elisp (19851 including #orgmode comments): https://github.com/novoid/dot-emacs/blob/master/config.org

Neocaml – Rubocop Creator's New OCaml Mode for Emacs

I asked something about the #emacs package #projectile a few weeks ago (here https://github.com/bbatsov/projectile/discussions/1920). As I wrote, I have a project B that depends on a project A. It's a C++ program with all base classes in project A and specialized ones in project A. I was not able to make use project-vc-external-roots-function. I ended up creating a new function almost identical to projectile-find-file-in-all-projects, namely projectile-linked-project-files with a .dir-locals.el variable projectile-linked-projects.
As no one seems to answer to me on Github, anyone knows if it could be a good idea to do a pull request?

Hot on the heels of the first "official" #neocaml release, I'm very pleased to share that neocaml 0.2 is out today with many improvements! (see the release notes for details github.com/bbatsov/neoc...) Thanks to everyone who tested v0.1 and provided valuable feedback! You rock! #OCaml #Emacs

🎉 Behold, the latest in the never-ending quest to make #Emacs less user-friendly! The #Rubocop creator has decided to grace us with #Neocaml, because apparently OCaml wasn't hard enough already without some #TreeSitter magic. 🤪 Embrace the chaos, developers! 🖥️🔧

I'm happy to report that my port of the #Catppuccin themes for #Emacs is now available on MELPA (under the name batppuccin, as there's also the "official" port under the catppuccin name)

I hope you'll like it!

I've reworked (and extended) neocaml's huge README into a nice documentation site, powered by MkDocs and Material. Check out https://neocaml.org/ and let me know if you like it and if you feel that something needs to be improved there.
