Looks like my initial assessment over camera specs in iPhone Duo has proven correct. I'll be verifying myself when I get mine tomorrow, but it seems like you'll get comparable shots to iPhone 17 Pro in 95% of conditions for the main camera, and you'll miss optical telephoto if you used it.

The choice is simple for me: I'll use apps that work great with Duo and won't use the ones that don't. As apps are updated, I'll evaluate.

Apple Vision Pro: it still exists! I love this thing, but Apple's heart is clearly in the Duo at the moment.

Duo is going to be an interesting camera even if it's not the "best" by iPhone standards. I really feel like I won't be missing much beyond the telephoto.
