Just seen this comic created by #pizzacakecomic (https://pizzacakecomic.com/), which lots of people seem to be posting with a sort of wry headshake and a rueful look. But this seems OK to me -- I feel like the second comic, an alteration by me, is ok! Am I wrong to feel like this? I mean... this is a good place to be in, isn't it?

This is the talk I did at #StateOfTheBrowser. It's about how we set up @owa , how you can do your own open web advocacy, and why that's important. And about poetry and the Lady of Shalott. I'm quite proud of it, actually. Video, transcript, and slides at https://www.kryogenix.org/code/browser/the-mazy-web/ -- have a watch, and let me know what you think. And if you'd like to see this talk in person, I'm giving it at #OggCamp this weekend as well, and probably offering it to other conferences too.

Ok, it was depressing but not eye opening because I knew this stuff already. Antibiotics are overprescribed, and also people don’t finish the course, so we’ve been inadvertently breeding antibiotic resistant bacteria for years and are continuing to do so, which means by 2050 they’ll have largely stopped working and diseases currently fixed by antibiotics will be killing more people than cancer. This isn’t good. Not much in the way of solutions proposed: raising awareness. #Pint23

Oh no, a brewing crisis??
Ah, a crisis that’s brewing, not a crisis in brewing.
I suspect this one is going to be eye opening and depressing. #Pint23

Time for #pint23 at the MAC. Which I have just walked all the way to, which took 45 minutes and I’m knackered now. Might get the bus back.
It’s called “When Bacteria And Immune Systems Go Wild”, which will hopefully be interesting, speaking as the possessor of an immune system which is basically like a billionaire tech CEO, in that it doesn’t work and I’m annoyed by it -

@webstandards I should also say: really nice work by the #SotB2024 team on getting these videos recorded, transcribed, and published. Very cool!

@DavidDarnes I’ve been working on a thing in my spare time which uses web components, but I got stumped by how to do the layout, getting subgrid to apply to things in each component’s shadow DOM. I have redone it using entirely light DOM and it’s much more clear and it works, and I wouldn’t have thought to do that without your #SotB2024 talk! Feels like I have achieved some sort of epiphany of understanding. Thank you!

huh, maybe third-party app stores on iOS. I am reserving judgement since there is a lot of letter-of-the-law-but-not-spirit available here, but... the needle is nonetheless moving. But: web apps please, Apple. #OpenWebAdvocacy

Anybody know anything about https://blockprotocol.org/? @eli mentioned it at #TechMids and I’ve been reading about it. It seems to be an attempt to build a standard protocol for components which are exchangeable across websites, but which doesn’t want to be solely Web Components (presumably to get framework people on board). Seems a reasonable idea, but with zero interest — I’d never even heard of it. Does everyone else know about this and I don’t?

Rather impressed by @andypiper’s Framework laptop at #TechMids. I knew it had all the swappable parts, but I hadn’t realised it was pretty. If I buy another laptop, it might be that one, especially since I probably need a new one with USB-C now that some venues expect you to connect that way to their projector.
