  1. AI Coding Assistants and Agents are changing the way software is created, but developers have been expected to learn how to use them without any guidance. As managers push developers into adopting these tools how are they expected to avoid the dangers and pitfalls of vibe coding? In this post I take a high level look at the tools and practices developers can use to move quickly with AI without wanting to set their code bases on fire.

  6. SQLAlchemy is a powerful tool that lets Python developers define their database schemas using simple classes. I made Paracelsus to turn those SQLAlchemy defined databases into diagrams that can be used to visualize the schema.

  7. @tedivm FFS.

Individual developers should never take the time to sign any contractual agreement unless they are being paid. I hope no-one was foolish enough to do so.

  8. @elan @tedivm The biggest regression is the elimination of cash; the #warOnCash. AFAICT #Klarna is cashless; unlike the #SafePay card, there is no way to buy a card at a supermarket using cash. So #unbanked ppl are excluded. I would love to open a Klarna acct linked to a temporary bank acct which I then close, rack up a Klarna debt & say to Klarna “where can I pay be debt in legal tender?”

  9. In light of the fact that major broadcasters are lobbying the FCC to force encryption/subscriptions in to standard OTA broadcasts, now is a good time to talk about #DIYTV

Hat tip to @tedivm for sharing the story.

  10. I want to give a special thanks to Ryn Daniels, my technical editor, as well as Brian and Rebecca from Manning Press. I'd also love to give a shout out to my reviewers, who really helped raise the bar for the book.

  11. With the early access program you'll get access to three chapters, with new chapters coming roughly each month. You'll also have access to the discussion forums for the book, where you can ask questions and provide feedback on the book before it's published.

  12. I almost can't believe I'm writing this, but after so much work my book, Terraform in Depth, is available for early access!

This book has been a long time in the making. A huge goal of mine was to make this book accessible to new users of Terraform while also providing valuable information for people using Terraform in production.

  18. Truly enjoyed this week's #Tedium @tedium by @ernie

I actually have Bell Centennial still installed from the days when Penny and I owned our newspapers. We used the fonts in our display advertising and "enhanced" classified ads.

I load the old font archive onto every new computer I get. #font #Fonts

There is something beautiful and magical about fonts. A true work of art. A world where art and text collide.

Why AT&T had to redesign its primary phone-book font in the late 1970s to keep with the times, and the clever typographical trick it used.

  19. Tonight's #Tedium has me thinking about a new project.

Take a wood grained retro cable box and make it a #RaspberryPi case for a home media/gaming setup. Throw #Jellyfin in, maybe even #retropi, then gut an old VCR and turn it into a little homemade NAS.

Have a retro look with today's technology

If nothing else, looking at all that underneath the TV will bring back good memories of yesterday, when I was young.😂 #GenX

  21. "Tedium...I work hard. I fulfill what the moralists of action would say is my social duty. I fulfill that duty, or fate, without too much effort and without gross incompetence. But sometimes right in the middle of my work, or in the middle of the rest which, according to the same moralists, I deserve and ought to enjoy, my soul overflows with a bitter inertia, and I'm tired, not of working or resting, but of me."(#263)

"The love of absurdity and paradox is the animal happiness of the sad. Just as the normal man talks nonsense and slaps others on the back out of zest and vitality, so those incapable of joy and enthusiasm do somersaults in their minds and perform, in their own cold way, the warm gestures of life." 22. OK, screw it, we’re going full Santa Claus with today’s @tedium. This piece ponders the evolution of the cultural icon, whether he represents capitalism or socialism, and whether we should expect further evolutions from here. tedium.co/2022/12/24/santa-cla new #tedium

There are many WP sites already behind CF.

This just leads to more lock-in.
