  1. I want some kind of browser plugin that actually keeps track of ads somehow -- what company/service/product is it for? Now I want those ads blocked of course, but I want to be able to check and see who has been committing spam/ads/marketing in order to know who/what to boycott at the store. Basically I'd like to be able to easily limit my spending to "generics" that haven't committed advertising in *at least* a year. But I don't actually know who all the folks committing advertising *are* because, of course, their ads are hidden by my ad blocker.

  2. And of course the Chinese made phone I just ordered (to replace one that had started to develop touchscreen problems after many years of use) is ruggedized and waterproof... literally has an underwater mode for the camera.

So how bout that $2000 Apple phone? Surely it's waterproof too and rugged and unbreakable, right? I mean for 20X the cost it would have to be, right? Right? For that kind of price it must have a twenty year warranty *and* be 100% waterproof and impossible to break, right? Right?

  3. I feel like there was just a big misunderstanding with the silly "smart glasses" thing.

I just picture some executive realizing how cool it would be to have a display built into a pair of glasses to be able to see incoming messages and such without pulling out their phone.

They gather the hardware development guys and say "We need smart glasses!" Everyone nods and agrees and the exec thinks they're all on the same page.

And then... they produced a pair of glasses with NO display but with a built in camera?

The exec just nods and pretends it's all fine because they don't want to admit they'd screwed up so badly in explaining the project.

  4. I'm still pissed about having to run a horrible "app" (Rippling) on MY phone for work. I'm a dishwasher... I shouldn't need a smart-phone to do my job, nor should my employer have the right to require me to run ANYTHING on MY device.

  5. Just had to spend $108 on a new phone and was feeling pretty bad about it... then I saw a "Visual Capitalist" chart of "iPhone" prices around the world and... well.. yikes. Okay, I don't feel too bad about spending $100 when there's ****ing American consumers all around me who would seriously pay $2,000 for a phone.

  6. I don't understand "click bait" headlines - I just assume that they lead to some equally junk article and would never consider clicking on them. I literally incapable of even imagining any other reaction - if I can't tell from the headline what the article is about or whether it is about anything at all, that's not "bait", that's repellent.

  7. I don't think there's actually any day of the year that I don't see ads ("headlines") in my Google News feed about "Prime Day".... was that ever actually just a day? When did it become an ongoing unstoppable advertising campaign running year round? Like is it a sale that happens on any day that happens to be a prime number now or what? IDGI.
