  10. will probably have to publish a partial site update tonight, bc there is much more to do on it and my energy to keep working on this project is diminishing

i should write a script/program that helps me organize my images for the site and in general

    i want it to:

    • $scriptname . displays the images in a dir in the terminal with libsixel, and prints exif data from exiftool beneath them, current file name, and current alt-text from metadata
    • $scriptname rename . interactively opens each photo in the dir, asking if the metadata date is correct, offering to change the date, next prompt asks for a short hyphenated name, next prompt asks for user-created alt-text which it will then save in the metadata of the image, lastly it automatically changes .jpeg to .jpg and lowercases the whole filename
    • $scriptname hugo . generates a hugo short-code for the images in the dir, sorting them in reverse-chronological order, saving to hugo.txt. prompts at the beginning for
    • $scriptname html . same as above but in plain html, saves to html.txt
    • $scriptname alt $file prints the alt text for a file. pipe to wl-copy for easily putting it onto the keyboard. optionally use . to print filenames with alt-text for a whole dir.
    • $scriptname status prints if the files have been renamed, checks if there is an alt-text for each image
    • $scriptname org . checks if there are dirs for each year, moves files into a directory by year. checks first if there are dates in all the metadata and prompts y/n if not all files have date metadata
    • probably more things than this, but don't want it to get too complicated
    • this is meant to be a post-edit tool, but could easily be expanded to cull images from larger shoots pre-edit

inspired by a script @brainlessbitch wrote to get me started with this photo management stuff

  11. renaming and moving around images and writing them into a hugo shortcode is soooo annoying omg

  12. ah cool, im working on my /photography page locally and set the CSS on img to max-height: 90vh; and now it looks like portrait images will actually fit in the viewport (max-width is 100%)

hopefully this works in all browsers

  13. excited to use zfs send for backups whenever i get my server running again

  14. i love being a Democratic Socialist of America member with an anarchist lens

the terms "socialist" and "anarchist" have a lot of connotations, but the labels don't matter as much as the actual practice of the politic

i use the label leftist a lot for myself because people often get hung-up on various schools of politics when other labels are used

i am indeed a leftist because of my philosophy

politics flows from philosophy, or rather how we view others

do we treat others as ends in themselves or means to an end?

do we want basic needs to be provided for all?

do we want to strive for a nonhierarchical and respectful approach in our relations?

our attitudes and answers here matter

especially when liberals and conservatives would like to erase leftist ideas from the discourse all-together

    hegemony only serves the powerful

personally, i believe in cosmopolitan politic: all of us on this pale-blue dot deserve to have all of our needs met by living in a community that prioritizes care for each other and eliminates the poisons of capital and prejudice

it's more complicated than that of course, and my statement there is a bit utopian in scope, but the attitude in which we strive for building a better world matters: we can't build something better without a vision of how good it could possibly be

taking a grander view of the universe, all of this will be gone eventually: humanity will go extinct along with all other life in the universe

so everything matters and nothing matters?

    yes, but/and

this does not negate the need to actively fight for that better world

politics is an extension of ethics: how we treat others is important here and now

"politics is dumb but very important"

so place your energy in doing what you can to make the world better for others and join leftist movements, and cease the infighting

solidarity forever only works if we actually demonstrate solidarity

care for others is the building block and cornerstone of my heart

may our joy, love, queerness, care, and whimsy be a light and warmth in the cold dark of the universe
