  1. ICANN opened review of 1,600+ new #gTLD applications yesterday, while .pay, .fly, .dot, .eat, and .here move through sunrise and trademark claims phases into 2027.

    New gTLD are being abused at 32x the rate of legacy TLDs over a 90-day window, and nearly half of reported cybercrime domains are connected to new gTLDs, despite a 12% market share.

    Each new registry is also a new dependency for brand owners, since takedown outcomes rest on how that operator handles abuse reports.
