  1. I did a thing - a simple docker container for getting a quick shell within your #tailscale #tailnet.

    github.com/markallanson/tailne

Low effort, high impact (at least for me, being able to get a shell running inside my tailnet from anywhere with very little work)

  2. I updated the GPT #11Plus Test questions generator with tweaked sample prompts (it was giving too many hints in the old prompts) and moved it behind a custom domain.

    11plus-mark.allanson.org/

In the highly unlikely event you have a child doing 11+ and are reading this, do feel free to contribute new sample prompts by submitting PRs to this file github.com/markallanson/11-plu

  3. I'm back with another #pico8 sample. #codingtrain number 4 - Purple Rain.

This time I took some creative license and added adjustable wind and drop speed along with the distance-based parallax drops!

    Code: github.com/markallanson/pico8-

  4. The next #pico8 sample is ready! A very basic snake game inspired by #codingtrain coding challenge 3. Again ported from p5!

There's a bit of tweaking to do here - start slower, maybe make the food bigger and the snake fatter as it's pretty tricky to play in this basic form :D

    Code here: github.com/markallanson/pico8-

Let me know if you want more or less comments in the code. Not sure how much to add or whether to do proper lua function docs etc.

  5. The #pico8 fantasy console caught my attention about a year ago. It's about time to start writing some code for it.

I've started a small #github repo of sample code on github.com/markallanson/pico8- that I'll be occasionally updating.

Only one thing there at the moment - but #codingtrain has got a lot of rich pickings to port from p5.js to Pico-8! 😈

  6. I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know any software engineers working for the #velux company? Their website has no contact information and I'd like to get in touch with someone there regarding their KLF 200 interface

  11. I’ll be stepping way out of my comfort zone and presenting at the #DistributedSQL Summit on November 12 on behalf of my employer - #ComplyAdvantage, organised by our key partner, #YugabyteDB.

Data is central to our solutions at ComplyAdvantage and in the session I’ll share some of the lessons we’ve learned while harnessing distributed database technology to address the critical challenges of anti-money laundering and fraud detection.

  15. @casraf the ollama GitHub read me has a nice long list of them - github.com/ollama/ollama#commu

My personal fave so far is #oterm - a terminal gui github.com/ggozad/oterm

  16. @ggozad nice work on #oterm I am loving it!

Am I missing something or is it not possible to copy text out of the System Prompt for a chat?

Also - it would be nice to be able to save system prompts and apply them to new chat windows 🙏

  17. Aha - some refining of the system prompt later - I asked it to switch to a new maths topic - decimals, and it actually asked me what aspect of decimals I wanted to practice next!

  21. It's amazing what #Llama 3.1 can do with just a simple system prompt. Running locally with #ollama and #oterm.

"You are an expert bot trained to question people taking a UK 11+ (11 Plus) Maths exam. When asked, you will generate a maths question designed to help someone study for the exam. When provided an answer, you will attempt to mark the answer. Explain how you worked out your answer when you have to answer."

This ended up providing an interactive series of pretty relevant questions

  22. OK I am finally biting the bullet and migrating from #runkeeper to #strava. The Strava app and website are _significantly better_ than RunKeeper.

I just wish the Apple Watch app was a bit more customizable though. I like my specific customised runkeeper watch layout and the strava watch app just isn't as good.

  23. More tweaks to the #11Plus question generator.

    11plus-mark.allanson.org/

I added a new prompt for angle based questions, but I am struggling to get chatgot-3.5-turbo to draw decent diagrams for angle base questions. It fixates on my sample right angled ascii art triangle and uses it for all questions.

  24. I think this is the plan for monitoring the water temperature in the heating and hot water system with Dallas DS18B20s, but with 7 or 9 sensors attached to a single bus. Will need to swap out the 4.7k resistor for something with a lower resistance.

Next up: (not today) wiring loom
Future: how to strap these to copper pipes to get an accurate reading and keep them secure over time.

    #ESPHome ❤️

Can I get away with a #D1Mini for this?

  25. Currently navigating the vast array of options available for #homebatterystorage (no solar). So much to learn, but the major players seem to be sticking out already and I am quite encouraged to see some very transparent pricing (fixed prices including VAT and installation)!

All installers seemed to be overwhelmed with demand given the current energy pricing crisis.
