  1. Debian 13 installed. SSH is working. The base configuration has been deployed with Ansible. The host is now in my basement under a table, ready to be forgotten. Next step for when I have time will be to configure encrypted ZFS and Jellyfin.

  6. When I was a kid, I saw only Toy Story 1. With my kids, we have seen up to Toy Story 3. I see now who's Sid, Buster and Trixie, respectively Debian unstable, 10 and 13. Tonight, we'll see Toy Story 4 starring Forky (14). I still don't see who's Bullseye and Bookworm though.

  16. Certbot doesn't define CN by default which is required by pgBackRest and OpenVPN as of today. I tried to use a CSR but Certbot doesn't automatically renew those certificates making certbot pointless. I'm now using acme.sh and it just works github.com/acmesh-official/acm

  21. No I won't run a script to create users with a weak password you sent me in cleartext because it's hard-coded in a third-party software. For security sake!

  22. - Hello, I would like admin privileges on my database because I use a "No code" framework and I would like to be free to change the schema whenever I want and don't depend on your team to prod
    - How about no?

If the schema needs to be changed every day on prod, you need to stabilize it first because schema changes are not transparent. If they don't often lock, they can cause i/o spikes.

It's even more important if you use ORMs, "No code" framework or even AI where you, or the ops/DBA team don't even know what's under the hood. When things go bad, we'll be on-call. Will you?

  23. TIL that I can copy paste from a terminal using CTRL+SHIFT+c and CTRL+SHIFT+v on Linux, after 18 years of daily usage.

When you don't have a mouse, it's so much easier than using SHIFT+INSERT or right click copy, right click paste.

  24. Yesterday, I received an alert on the server hosted at my dad's house.

This host is often down because the humidity attacks the disks and brings down the entire host from time to time, or my dad tinkers on the electric circuit. So I wasn't worried at first.

But today, after 24 hours and no news from him, I started to be a little anxious. What could have happened? Is he safe?

I finally have an explanation. He drove to the south of the country to visit another family member but forgot to tell me he had arrived. The most important thing is that he's safe.

He also forgot to tell me that he shut down the usual electric devices including the modem, so my server was cut from the Internet for two weeks 💀

No worries daddy, I tested my DRP (Disaster Recovery Procedure) to restore my forgejo instance (git.riou.xyz) at my house. The procedure went well thanks to Ansible and ZFS. The service is now up and running again! 😎

The other services on this host are only important for him when he's at home so they don't need to be restored somewhere else.
