Article about butterfly declines across North America, with a focus on monarchs. One of the primary threats is pesticide use.
Researchers analyzed 336 individual plants, including milkweeds, in the US and found only 22 did not have detectable pesticides.
In some cases, 100% of milkweed sold at retail nurseries had detectable levels of pesticides.

Dogs were originally thought to be domesticated around 10,000 years ago but new findings have moved that back even farther an additional 5,000 years. Dog remains at a burial site in Turkey confirmed this date when researchers extracted DNA from dog jawbones and compared them to dog and wolf DNA.|

the new Olympic mascots are these super cute stoats, look at them!
"Our stoats are two cheerful and easy-going teenagers, energetic, determined and strong-willed, sometimes charmingly irreverent towards adults and eager to assert their role as protagonists in the world to come," the Milano Cortina organizing committee wrote."

Cycads, an ancient plant group, attract beetle pollinators by producing heat, becoming hotter than the ambient temperature by 15-25 degree Fahrenheit. The beetles sense the heated-up plants via infrared radiation.

I reached my goal of reading 20 books this year, here were the most recent few. I got on a trend on reading banned books at the end, and a few were YA novels so that feels like cheating a bit haha. I'm still going to get a few more in this year. Also had to switch to fiction for a bit, I was reading nonfiction mostly at the beginning and it always takes more focus to get through those. #books #reading #2025Goals

They did morphometrics on the Chicago Rat Hole and concluded that its likely a squirrel. Published in Biology Letters, "Rodent indent not self-evident: a case of mistaken identity of the 'Chicago Rat Hole'".

Checkered whiptail lizard (Aspidoscelis tesselata) from my front yard. Never seen this particular species in the yard before, but they're common in the desert. One of the larger whiptails, it's an all-female species, amazingly. #lizards #herpetology #NewMexico #whiptail

There's so many science professionals on the fedi, has anyone considered putting together a free seminar series where we host talks for each person's study focus? Would love to see interesting talks from people. #science #seminars #education

Playing through the remake of Klonoa 2 on steam last week, and this one is so much easier than the first one! Wonder why they made the change? The gameplay feels smoother and more responsive overall. Love the side characters in this, they have a lot of personality. Seems like every game from the late 90s to early 2000s had a skateboarding or snowboarding scene. #klonoa #videogames #platformers

I've been playing the Klonoa remake on Steam, and the first one is much harder than I remember! It's a really solid platformer and very fun and cute. I really enjoyed the era of character-driven/mascot platformers. I did have some issues with the quality on my laptop - hitboxes in the game didn't register unless I used certain quality settings. #klonoa #videogames #platformers

The Fort Lowestoft in the UK is a gaming-based charity that supports people with learning disabilities. They run a gaming hub and social space for their community and are a really great charity. The Fort is raising money to purchase their space from their landlord and could use some help! Boosts are greatly appreciated to help them reach this goal. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-lowestoft-mencap-save-the-centre-fight-for-the-fort?lang=en_GB #gaming #charity #GoFundMe #LearningDisabilities #disability #fundraising

Some of my pokemon plush collection of cubone, one of my favorites. I'm not a serious collector just a casual one. Most of my faves are from gen 1/2 and cubone has been a long time favorite - creatures with skull/bone motifs are *chef's kiss*. The large sleeping plush released relatively recently and it's my fave of this lot :blobaww: #pokemon #cubone #plush #PokemonCollectors #figures

Awesome fossil stamps I received from Canada! The conodonts one is so cool - they were jawless vertebrates kind of like hagfish. Parts of their "teeth" are found as fossils. #postcrossing #stamps #fossils #conodonts #biology
