  1. I'll be talking at Mix Camp E-commerce Search (MICES) in Berlin on June 10th on "How much searchandizing is too much searchandizing" - when searchandizing should — and should not — be used, which techniques to apply, and how to make results explainable both internally and externally. It will describe processes and good practices to manage searchandizing proactively rather than reactively, how to prioritise, how to push back when nothing should change, and why ongoing maintenance and the ability to review and remove old rules matters. 12. If you're just getting started with search, you might be comparing the popular #elasticsearch and the powerful #VespaAI - particularly if you've read some recent comparisons showing how the latter can be faster..so you'll be looking for a simple 'getting started' guide - you know, throw in some simple documents, run a search or two. The difference between each is very apparent - here's #Elasticsearch elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsea and here's #VespaAI docs.vespa.ai/en/tutorials/tex - much, much longer and to my eye more complex and potentially off-putting for the beginner. Sure, Vespa has some amazingly powerful features and a solid heritage but I think until they make the onboarding experience way easier they'll struggle to drive adoption. Elastic's strength was always how quick & easy it was to start with compared to the incumbent #Solr.

  13. Sequoia Capital recently released a report suggesting we "imagine a world where every profession has its own specialized AI search engine". This is a fallacy I call 'one ring to rule them all', the hope that if we could build the ultimate search & AI product it would automatically ingest any data and solve any enterprise use case for a particular sector. I'm confident in saying this is an impossible dream.

[…] There we go. Just like last year, groups of Jewish rioters are running rampant in the Muslim Quarter. They are attacking, cursing, and behaving barbarically towards Palestinians, journalists, and "Standing Together" activists.
