  1. Yes, I am making some assumptions. But, yes, I mean specifically British.

  2. RE: mastodon.social/@fesshole/1165

Somehow, this is the most British thing I’ve ever heard.

  3. My mid-semester anti-AI ranting and raving seems to have worked! I’ve now marked two classes worth of final papers and only had one that smelled like robot feces. 🙂

Still planning to rework my process / policies around writing assignments over the summer.

  8. Sat next to a mother and daughter speaking German on the flight out of Bozeman today. I learned to read German in grad school, and have tried in fits and starts to learn to speak a bit.

It was really short, but I think I carried out a whole conversation today. Information flowed in both directions! #deutschsprechenden #spass

  9. Challenge: find a paragraph where every word describes you to the letter, written by someone who’s never met you. #ohShit #itMe

  10. From a student paper: “God is being. God is the nothing from which everything stems.”

Sometimes I know that I’m really lucky to get to have these conversations regularly. It’s not usually while grading papers.

  11. Headed home from a conference in Milwaukee and discovered a delightful used bookstore in the airport—Renaissance Books. It’s the kind of edge-of-chaotic, books double shelved and stacked to the ceiling, hidden treasure bookstore that you expect to find in a backstreet downtown somewhere. The opposite of an “airport bookstore.” Happily found a Derrida text to take home and could have looked for much longer. #books #bookstodon #bookstore #hiddentreasure

  12. The slide wasn't very deep. The crown is maybe a foot tall, but it ran a good long way and it wouldn't have been a fun ride.

While the rest of the slope was stable, this spot was pretty clearly ready to go because of wind loading coming over the top. I'm grateful for my friend's spidey-sense that we were in a risky spot, and grateful for good terrain choices on our skin track up. The slide came close, but never ran over our track.

  13. We did one lower run (not super skiing, breakable crust 🤮) and then three of us decided to head up further and climb one of the peaks since the skiing wasn’t great.

As we hopped up on the shoulder, my friend who was cutting trail had a funny feeling and asked us to hang back a minute while he crossed under a slightly steeper slope.

  14. 🧵 Went with some friends to a backcountry yurt last weekend. We had a bit of a close call that I thought I’d share. It’s been a super busy week, so I’m just getting to it. #montana #backcountryski #avalanche #yurt

  15. CW: Deadly ear worm, stay away, you’ve been warned

I have no idea how / why, but my daughter started singing this song this morning and I haven’t heard it in… 20 years?

High school buddy and I used to sing this at the top of our lungs as we skied down long cruisy groomers way too fast.

Sorry, but once you listen to this, you will be singing it in your head for at least a week.

  16. I know of at least 5 mountains named "Elk Mountain." Along with "Red Mountain," this has to be one of the most common peak names in the Rockies.

Anyway, here's Elk Mountain, in Glacier NP, about 15 miles northeast of the closest other Elk Mountain.
