@eleanorrees Four of my neighbours DID vote for the them, I'm sad to say. We're normally a street with a mix of LD, Lab and Green (and no Tories), but the car driver tendency and a load of misleading stuff about 15-minute neighbourhoods has brought out an anti-authoritarian streak in some of them. Makes my blood boil. One other seat just in where Labour have clung on by 7 votes.

Good that they've dropped this idea (and well done all those who forced them to). Bad that they ever proposed it.

It's #MEAwarenessDay
SequenceME is a groundbreaking medical research project by the University of Edinburgh, Oxford Nanopore Technology and the European Bioinformatics Institute. It's a whole-genome study aiming to accelerate the development of diagnostics and life-changing treatments for #MECFS and #LongCovid. Today would be a great day to chuck them a few quid.

So the 'underwater welder' story is a reference to when Clea gets impaled with the harpoon?

Tried watching Small Prophets and temporarily went mad trying to remember where I'd heard the homunculi story before. It's in Lawrence Durrell, the Alexandria Quartet (riffing on Paracelsus). Posting this in case anyone else is temporarily going mad over it. #SmallProphets

Chris Green popping up in different kit everywhere you look, like Angela Parry in The Happiest Days of Your Life. #cricket #SA20 #OneForTheTeenagers

Watching #Ashes #cricket Day 4 highlights, including Green's savage bouncer to Bethell early in his innings. That reminded me of the one from Will O'Rourke to Bethell in the Wellington Test in December 2024. Bethell did a full Matrix-style backbend to avoid it, and the commentator went "OH, HE'S GOT A YOUNG MAN'S CARTILAGE!" A phrase that sticks in the mind.

Letter from school saying they're going to stop using Facebook to share photos due to concerns about AI, and instead they're going to put things on a Google Drive.

"Our message to the public is to find out where the consultation events are, go along, and if they won’t let you in to talk about all the issues then try and shut it down, because they are an absolute sham."
Being housebound, I couldn't do this. I'm grateful to those who do.

Open letter to the Health Secretary from 200 healthcare professionals raising concern about safety of patients with ME/CFS/Long Covid in the NHS:
"... paradoxically, the sicker a patient is, the less care they receive.
"Even if doctors and healthcare professionals are knowledgeable and willing to treat patients, the infrastructure to provide safe and appropriate care does not exist."

@chrischirp Great to see @trishgreenhalgh noting that LC patients need to pace themselves and that efforts to push for performance increases can cause long-term harm.
It would be amazing if she could help bring pressure on the Cochrane Library to remove its seriously flawed 2019 review of exercise for ME/CFS, which is leading some unwitting clinicians to advise LC patients to over-exert, causing serious harm.

A disability campaigner was given the Freedom of the City of London but couldn't collect the award at the ceremony because the stage didn't have a wheelchair ramp.
