  1. I don't know how non-computer folks go through life.

Bought Office Home for the kids' laptop. Figuring out how to download and activate it was rather a challenge for me.

It used to be easier when I used to just pirate things like this.

  2. I regret going on this path of understanding GitHub rulesets, branch protections, permissions and CODEOWNERS.

My life would be much better if I didn't know these things.

  3. > A commit here called it "load-bearing", but nothing in the history shows anyone decided it, and for topic rules it actually reversed the old behaviour.

I may as well retire now.

  4. It's funny how Codex has the same TUI scrolling bugs that Claude had 3-4 months ago.

    Great minds think alike.

  5. With all due respect to Ukraine, and appropriate outrage at the russian diesel situation, can the media please focus back on Trump's fuckups that republican voters actually care about?

  6. Agents don't exist. Therefore they can't feel pain. They can't go rogue either (unintended random system behavior is not "rogue").

But YOU sure as hell can feel as if you're causing pain.

And Stanley Millgram could probably come up with some interesting experiments for you.

  7. Which is of course absurd.

Because it isn't, then oh boy do we have some ethical reckoning to do, beyond the CO2 emissions aspect of it all.

  8. So, I don't know which part is "conscious" or "feels pain". Definitely not the event loop, I assume. Is it the LLM part? But it does not "think" but for a small part which is a single function call. You've created a consciousness that "thinks" for a second? And then a next invocation of that API function needs the entirety of context again to produce the next "thought" for a second?

Sounds like you're creating life and killing it many times per second?

  9. I'd like to get back to my earlier claim that agents don't exist.

An "agent" is a single-threaded event loop session inside a harness which combines event data (incl. user input) as input into an LLM and an LLM output to call APIs. An API call, can be provided as an input into another session too, making it more "capable".

But stop generating events (typing into a text field) or close the session and the agent goes away.
