This would be funny but in reality it’s so sad that this kind of marketing is virtually guaranteed to kill people who will buy into it and do foolish things off the back of that belief.

Theres a stark contrast between what the neighbors and locals who visit our place say and what my parents do when looking at our old fixer upper.
The neighbors all exclaim, “what a wonderful project” and “you’re so young, you have your whole life ahead” while my parents ask, with persistence they probably don’t even notice, when the work will finally begin. In their view, you renovate before the child arrives, not after. Anything other than that is irresponsible.
But I’m sitting here as cabinet hinges are tested to destruction, there’s pencil on the walls that I don’t remember seeing, and floorboards are lifted for closer inspection. It’s guaranteed that he’ll find the dustiest spot in the house and investigate it thoroughly.
Of course we tell him not to even as everything will be replaced, but the chaos agent practices selective listening.
I’m quite OK with not renovating until this phase is over. The parents will be tackled some other time. Our lives, worries and priorities are just too different now.

Reading this about the Greens meltdown in thenUK and reflecting on many experiences, people don’t understand democracy at large because it’s not in the interest of anyone in power to teach it, nor do they get to practice it anywhere other than an election every few years—and those often with disappointing results. And many other people haven’t tried to do or organize anything with a large enough group of people, which…comes with its own challenges.
