  1. An LLM is a statistically probable word generator and the only statistically significant signal in this data set is the labels so it's generating words that are probabilistically associated in it's training data with the labels in this data set. The garbage out is the garbage that is baked into the model.

  2. Been play testing my #InfinityTheGame solo engine today by running through the operation Icestorm scenario.  The AI (a deck of cards but on a webpage) doesn't make very good choices at the moment, especially on open maps like these, and I've been getting high scoring wins over it.  However, in the last game it came close to overwhelming me and it was only a few good rolls from the neutral CSU and my Hellcat medic keeping my people alive that allowed me to survive long enough to take the central objective.

  8. I know I'm one of a very limited audience for this but there's a new #DropzoneCommander edition in the works: ttcommunity.co.uk/articles-1/f

It's still a way off but it's a game I really enjoy playing and would be good to see new interest in it.

  9. First test of the AI* I am building went well: the core of the system works but it needs quite a bit more training data to optimise the weights**.

    * It's two priority selection ordered lists and four card decks.

** I need to play some more games with it and work out what the card decks should contain.

This isn't a game in progress, just a test of how it goes together and works with figures.

(Also these are from the Tunguska Jurisdictional Command, this really needs Corregidor Jurisdictional Command forces which I have awaiting painting in my pile of opportunity.)

  13. @ottaross I've not looked into this particular incident in detail but there are other cases in the Battle of Britain of clearly intentional ramming, P/O Kenneth Mackenzie being dubbed the "Messerschmitt Rammer" by the press.

  14. On 24 August 1940, during the #BattleOfBritain, four 32 Sqn Hurricanes crashed round the village where I grew up. Walking over the footpath from Woodland Road to Brady Road I noticed that the sites of all four are visible from the hill.

It's not unusual for aircraft from the same combat to crash in the same area but what's particularly notable about this is that 32 Sqn were involved in two combats over Lyminge on the same day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

  15. One of the pages on my #BattleOfBritain site seems more popular than I'd expect, even for a relatively notable event (first Messerschmitt brought down on British soil) and one I've covered in detail with some field research: battle-of-britain-diary.org.uk

I was checking some logs today and found the reason, this particular aircraft has been included as an option in the decal sheet of an #Airfix kit: uk.airfix.com/products/messers

  20. Summary of the turning point of the #BattleOfBritain in primary, contemporary, sources:

The first RAF bombing of Berlin on 26 August 1940 was intended to target factories and airfields but there was 10/10 cloud and only 35 of 86 aircraft report bombing a target in Berlin - and many of those record in the squadron record books that the effect on target could not be observed.

The German assessment of the raid was that it was targeting residential areas and explicitly state that this was the reason Hitler ordered the bombing of London on 7 September.

On 7 September, and unaware of the switch to targeting London, Fighter Command's leadership assessed that if the present rate of attrition carried on for four more weeks it would be difficult to maintain more than a front line defence.

On 12 September Keith Park, commander of the RAF's front line defence, assesses that the change in the Luftwaffe's attack strategy since 5 September means that he is confident in maintaining air superiority over British territory.
