On February 15, 2022, the ESA/NASA Solar Orbiter captured the largest solar prominence eruption ever recorded in a single field of view with the Full High Resolution Imager. This massive structure of hot gas, held in place by complex magnetic fields, extended millions of kilometers into space while the spacecraft was positioned at the Sun-Earth line. Observations of these giant eruptive prominences are critical for understanding solar atmospheric dynamics and the mechanisms driving space weather events that affect satellite communications and power grids on Earth.
