@amcasari Sarah “Cowley said there’s “a lot of empathy” among the journalists for tech employees and their drawn-out contract fight.
“…widely shared in the newsroom is the frustration that the company is not giving them the same just-cause job protections we have…,” she said. “It’s one sentence, and a bedrock of our contract. It’s pretty egregious that the company is still fighting [the Tech Guild] all these years later.”

ICMP echo reply
Is the proper response. Colloquially called an ACK or acknowledge response.
Or you can ignore the ping and state that your policy is “ ICMP echo reply” is disabled for security reasons

@amcasari I'm putting together a talk about the effect of climate change on disaster communications for #RATPAC.
Would it be possible to get an introduction to the geologist?
Or, just a pointer to anything published (from ieee to researchgate, doesn't matter, I'll read it) would be immensely helpful.

@amcasari to this day, that movie scares the SHIT out of me!

Sitting in the keynote room at PyCon US 2026 listening to @amcasari 🎤
The way she moves through topics like complexity, socio-technical systems, and the unexpected behaviors that emerge from them makes the whole room follow along naturally.
Really enjoying the examples and the direction of the talk so far. 🐍

Okay bike nerd friends - tell me your thoughts on wireless shifters. I'm not too excited about the idea of keeping firmware updated on the drivetrain for an otherwise acoustic vehicle.

Open source itself is a production system at a global scale, and is not the place to scale your product or gather RL data through uninvited experimental loops.
