Washington City Paper: Wizard of Oz in a Graveyard: Leigh Bardugo and John Picacio Bring Their Debut Picture Book to the National Book Festival

"Bardugo and her co-author (award-winning artist and longtime friend) John Picacio release their debut picture book, The Invisible Parade, which brings them to D.C. on Sept. 6 for the Library of Congress’ National Book Festival. Set on Dia de los Muertos, the story follows Cala, a young girl grieving the death of her grandfather. Although her parents joyfully prepare for the annual celebration, she’s too consumed by sadness to help. But when her family arrives at the cemetery for the party, Cala gets separated. Lost among the tombstones, she encounters four horsemen (yes, inspired by those four horsemen) who help Cala overcome her fears and embrace the idea that death doesn’t mean the end of a relationship."
