I decided to log into my old MacBook Pro (that I repaired last year and promptly forgot about again)

I now remember why I stopped using it and it isn’t because my repairs were incomplete (there is effectively no battery so it has to be plugged at all times, which is fun with a magnetic cable but whatever)

No, I stopped using this computer because the updates are a complete mess…

• Chrome refuses to update because the system is out of date (it also enabled two out of the three features I just refused, but whatever)
• the system reports being up to date
• all of the default apps to access my cloud saves tell me that indeed, the operating system is out of date and that my hardware is too old to allow me to get the latest version of the system
• Firefox still lets me update (for now)

And that’s with a manufacturer that has complete control over all the hardware components

The computer itself runs fine, if a bit slow at times. I’m going to have to switch to another OS, won’t I

(Of course I’m going to have the exact same issue with the Windows PC soon, because TPM)
