  6. @whynothugo congrats on the stable release of the #vdirsyncer rewrite!

In your blog post you mention that it's not feature complete when compared with the old version, do you have a list somewhere of what's missing so I could see if I'd be able to try out the new version?

Yes, #intuitiveThinking and knowing can be powerful. It can also create its own problems if the reaction is too strong.

Our gut tells us to block fosstodon due to them now operating on #CloudGlare, but then we would not get to inform good people of what is happening to their internet. So we put it off block them for as long as it tennable, as much as it disquiets us.

  8. @paul @linus @stefano @whynothugo I chose Ubuntu (for KDE Plasma) because the installer provides root-on-ZFS.

With that base, I have not yet figured out which of these will be the simplest way forward:

    ― bemgr
    ― zectl
    ― ZFSBootMenu.

    <gist.github.com/grahamperrin/a>

I see verbose guides, the verbosity creates a sense of complication.

I'd like the simplest possible guide to getting started, with any of the three options, where the boot environment layout/structure is predetermined by the installer for Ubuntu.

    TIA

    #rootonzfs #Linux #OpenZFS #ZFS #bemgr #zectl #ZFSBootMenu

I'm open to recommendations if you have them.

I've gotten vdirsyncer working bidirectionally between #orage and Google Calendars. That's nifty and was "easy" after setting up Google CalDAV API. So that's kinda cool, I guess.

Although, I've also learned this week that:
    - Google Calendar will drop and does not support VTODOs
    - vdirsyncer is apparently in the process of being deprecated for pimsync 😡 (whynothugo.nl/journal/2026/04/)
    - Neither of these will probably work well with Proton Calendar
    - The local TODO app that I like & have been using for the past 3ish weeks (GTG) seems mostly abandoned & sync is borked(possibly due to the VTODO issue?)
    - The NextCloud trial instance I'm using doesn't seem to support the QOwnnotesAPI(I've been using QOwnnotes to help organize my .md documents starting this year and was curious about using its TODO functionality).

Seems that I've just made some poor lifestyle choices.... 🤣

  18. With technology being omnipresent, digital rights have become essential rights. The debate is no longer whether the government can install cameras in your house and cars. The hot topic is about how the private sector gets away with it. Eventually, in the age of computing, opting out of the all-seeing technocracy won't be an option.

  19. Must resist the temptation to write a clone of Notepad (the old-school version) for Wayland.

  20. (the ) is underrated. It's lightweight and resource efficient simple, render ridiculously fast, has a pretty simple configuration format. It implements all those fancy modern terminal escape sequences. And the author is super friendly.

  21. How would you connect wires to this UART (GND/TX/RX) if you don't have a solder at hand?

  22. @lanodan @eal The same thing bothers me about . You have `openrc`, `service`, `rc-update`. They don't seem related, and would make more sense as subcommands of `rc`.

  23. (the static website generator) perpetually breaks backward compatibility, but also doesn't use semver, so any version can just break any random day.

It also warns about things like "no templates found for categories", on a site without categories. So I kinda end up ignoring warnings, because it warns about the non-existence of templates which are not used anyway.
