I watched my new copy of _The Postman Always Rings Twice_ (Tay Garnett, 1946) the other day believing I’d seen it before...and that really threw me for a loop; I went in thinking it'd be closer to _Double Indemnity_ (lovers make an airtight murder plan; tension comes from issues which crop up) when (as I gradually realized) this is about lovers who DONT have a good murder plan and double-cross each other at every opportunity. Elvis (Josh) Weinstein, who most definitely came before T.V.'s Frank -- he was Dr. Laurence Erhardt alongside Dr. Forrester for both the first local television season ("season 0") and all 13 episodes of season 1 on Comedy Central. Frank does not appear until the 35th episode of the series, Rocketship X-M (s2e1).
That doesn't take anything away from Frank who is certainly one of the best evil sidekicks ever. #deephurting #mst3k

I need to watch it all again now that I get the vibe. FANTASTIC performance by John Garfield and the first time I’ve really seen Lana Turner in her prime; she's amazing. Lots of great character actors including a twinkly Cecil Kellaway but Hume Cronyn stands out as the slimiest lawyer ever. And a great adaptation of James M. Cain even if the title seems a little shaky – what’s the metaphor? The postman is God? Ringing twice? Is there an Amazon and Ring camera update of this?? (#WTW 2 of 4)
