This post includes how I update the biome package. This post is easier to follow for those who are new to the workflow or about to get into when packaging in openSUSE. I do have a video before for updating harelang youtu.be/xuWjOK7X1SY but it is a 30 minute video so I prefer you read the post.

  4. CW: re: my wish for year 2024

@uncomfyhalomacro So, as someone who does a lot of interviews for devs, I have some advice if you want it.

Start doing some volunteer code work in a FOSS project, and maintain a public github/bitbucket with your code projects.

The very FIRST thing I do when looking at a resume is look to see if the person has anything they wrote up in github, I can tell a LOT from looking at their code. I can guage ability, dedication, and rough adherence to good code practices, I can tell about how good of a learning base you have as a programmer, etc.

Most other people in my position will do the same, and TBH, we are the folks you'd be working with because we are the team leads and the system engineers running the various groups in IT. You want a coding position? Start there, make it easy for us. It will also lead into some interesting interview questions like "What started you working for FOSS Project?"

  5. @uncomfyhalomacro I've installed #sioyek some time ago, ran it twice or so and returned to #zathura. For my needs, there was nothing that I could not do with Zathura; plus Zathura opens non-PDF files (comic book, djvu, ps) and printing is built-in and does not require manual tweaking in the config file.

  14. CW: Job seeking again

    Hello fedi.

    Unemployed as of the moment.

I’m currently exploring Junior to Mid-level Software Engineering opportunities, ideally remote-first roles within the APAC region. I have experience working with Go, Rust, and Python in backend development.

Due to personal circumstances, I’m not able to do onsite roles at the moment, but I’m fully available and committed to remote collaboration. I’d really appreciate any leads, referrals, or advice. Thank you!

  15. So I really took the time to perform packaging msedit for openSUSE:

    - video youtu.be/NxN-JQkexb0
    - the packaged editor github.com/microsoft/edit

I was drinking coffee and kind of full so you may hear my occasional "about to burp" moments.

  16. CW: rant: i really dislike some corpos

i saw many job posts and i understand why filipinos are desperate looking for jobs but what's disgusting is some corpos really exploit filipinos because they're cheap "slave" labour. and another thing is the working hours, can you even imagine working at 9:30pm to 6am with a time tracker and without rotating shifts in UTC+8? i dont want to risk killing myself slowly through sleep deprivation.

  17. CW: package management in openSUSE

are there any good news for the git workflow for OpenBuildService? like docs and stuff? I have packages that I haven't updated for a long while because I am confused that it didn't work.

  18. CW: philippine politics and elections

The fact that a certain cult leader is allowed to run for Senate in the PH shows how really fucked up PH is. I think I will decide to leave this country at some earlier point in the future. 😅

I will still use Github for work and to search for work because the world is that messed up. 🤷

For projects, I will start to move them unless it's not mine.

It would be funny projects that are part of companies will then file lawsuits for copyright violations and code stealing. Cha-ching 🤑 Not my problem 🥴

  27. CW: rant; ph education

here in the is for me, bad. students here are harder to teach every year because of the downward quality of intelligence. we spoonfed them that even cheaters who cheat cant cheat properly because the one they copied have a 90% of having the wrong answers. it's an exaggeration but it's no surprise we are the lowest in /
