I can't get my head around how the sale of #twitter was allowed to go ahead to a man whose reputation was already questionable. If it was Xi or Putin could the sale have been stopped? I'm confident a way would have been found.

We have parallels eg #arronbanks used data held by his #gibraltar based car insurance company Skippy, as well as employees, to campaign for #brexit in the months running up to the #referendum on the EU in 2016 & the damage to UK continues to rise.

Hopefully more members will contribute financially - those who are able - to keep it alive and kicking for many years to come. I very much hope we can keep it free of advertising or corporate takeover!

I concur, a #federated platform in the long run should be more stable, better moderated, and not subject to the whims of owners who, like the press, may use their platform including powerful algorithms to push their own agenda.

Are there any weaknesses of #Mastodon , apart from resource limitations for some #instanceadmins ?

I've long advocated for #opensourcetechnology & put my money where my mouth is on these.

#thunderbird is the bee's knees of email clients since its revamp - for me at least.

My monthly subs to Mozilla/Thunderbird and #opendocumentfoundation continue!

Bit miffed with LibreOffice recently though, when an update destroyed my macro library...I wasn't aware that this was an issue and that backup to a different folder was critical! Grrr!
