I watched this a couple nights ago, and yes, Gardiner is the cooler head we rather needed.

He makes some fair points, but to me, the final line is drawn on whether or not @mozillaofficial has the willpower and clarity to fashion a new manifesto declaring who they are and what they're about.

At the end of the day, the world does not need another adtech company. If that's what they're pivoting to, I'm out.

If they choose to pivot towards that which is ethical, noble, and virtuous, then #SUATMM. I will absolutely pay for the privilege of using firefox and thunderbird.

But I won't pay to help an adtech company.

Adtech is the devil's racket. You can't have it both ways. You can't be the noble guardian of the free and open web while dipping your toes into that "hive of scum and villainy."

Do any of the #FirefoxForks have an alternative to firefox sync?

It's kinda pointless to use a firefox fork, but still have your data on Mozilla's servers, n'est-ce pas? :/

  17. @koherecoWatchdog @humanetech @aral @travisfw Have you ever used any of those services you just listed? Why won't you use them? Did you read their terms of service and in the end you decided #NopeNotForMe?

I've tried these services and I'm gonna stick to them and its not because I want to antagonize you.

I'm gonna stick to them because they allow me to donate something to someone instead of not being able to donate anything to anyone.

Though I can understand your frustration.

  18. > I do believe we should state how we want people to use what we write and build structures that nurture the society we want to live in

@travisfw I do agree, esp. on the last bit. As "we should state how we want" is a) yes, a good thing to do, but b) falls flat afterwards in chaotic "herding of cats" #grassroots environments, esp. at scale where the true "nurturing online society" takes shape. This happens by #emergence, which is my focus area with Social experience design. Truly fascinating stuff.

PS. I'm curious which toot of mine inspired your reply, as its unattached. I hope to blog soon on #ParadoxOfEmergence and have created forum thread already: discuss.coding.social/t/sx-sus

    > I've been using the Peer Production License myself

@lykso interesting, TIL didn't know about it. You may peek at #HedonicPeerProduction if you hadn't before: coding.social/blog/reimagine-s

    > Is this ☝️ the gist?

Sort of. You may say that #SX is a holistic approach to foster a fair 'fitness formula' in a #commons.

  23. Dude 😳 I got press-ganged into service by a bunch of online anarcho-socialists. What can I say?

#WhatCorySaid is a fantastic hashtag, and I'm gonna try to use it a lot more. He put some awesome words around a number of things I've been feeling for a long time.

#FediForum is awesome, and I'm glad it's back this spring. It's required some difficult growth from the conference, and I think @j12t did a great job navigating the storm and coming out stronger for it.

  24. I am looking for #StudyBuddies as I learn about #GenerativeAI and Python. Is anyone else learning? My learning journey is: I'm am basically leaving back end JVM work and learning about pytorch and hugging face via this Generative AI nano degree on #Udacity, and also linear algebra and vector databases. I'm pretty fresh to python etc, but eventually I want to start doing some generative geometry for 3D graphics, so that's what I'm working towards. Please respond!

  25. I met the people who designed ethernet yesterday. Somehow I neglected to thank them for #lanParties.

  26. @djlink riding a half-tank through a bog like a motorcycle would be undisputably bad ass. Someone should bring one to #ClockworkAlchemy.

  27. Now, like in the , I have no retirement to lose to a bubble.
