  1. @Omega_Molecule - having set up here (on fosstodon.org) I’m still at encouraging people to make the jump to here.

  2. @KristinKim wheated bourbon 🥃 fan here - so most often, and or

  3. @jynersolives - have the folks on @tenforward.social spotted this StarTrek-themed parody thread 🧵 from yet?

  4. @yuhline - from being on here a few weeks (escapee from ) seems like there is a broad consensus to be more considerate than on other social networks and to use the CW system for “obviously” triggering topics. But there is much less consensus around requiring CW for topics that are less obviously problematic, and not at the expense of your need to raise topics that are important to you (since everyone can filter their own feeds).

  5. @john - thanks for the suggestion. I just deleted 's app from my phone. The people I like to communicate with and learn from are almost all over here now, and strong agree that the social and business train wreck is now so extreme as to raise bright red flags for potential security and financial risks.

  6. @MattTheQuick interesting, and a great visual explainer for why refugees/exiles/explorers from (including me) need to acknowledge that the Fediverse was here and thriving long before us, and there needs to be cultural adaption by the newcomers to the norms of this new welcoming community.

  7. @SoJoeP - so happy to be on here versus

  8. @JeffAsher - hi, and strong agree. I liked for connecting to science/tech colleagues and for real-time access to the rawest information from journalists and civil society watchdogs. Much of that network seems to be here or in process of migrating here. The test will be how this platform enables admins + users to moderate the discussions and curate the feeds to suite the user communities and not the advertisers and the people looking to control others or start fights.

  9. CW: Real long aggregation of Mastodon etiquette for birdsite expats

@chrisabides - thanks, very helpful. I’m happy to unlearn some of the craziness of the . The feels like the academic internet of 25 years ago, for now. The CW system and interface probably needs to evolve - make it easier and easier for users to make and auto-enforce their own decisions about when to add CWs and if/when to filter out media, toots or servers from their feeds.

  10. @drvolts This is the one thing that worries me the most about my family living in the US. I’m from Australia 🇦🇺 where after a terrible mass shooting over 25 years ago we banned, bought back, and destroyed all the high capacity semi automatic firearms … and that essentially ended the problem! (without ending free society 🙄) [expanded from a response to this thread on ]

  11. @estebanmoro @madeinfarreni - going to be very interesting to see what are the next few key events to bring people here (not longer caring about what happens at ).

My bet is on major celebrities/content creators starting to post here (simultaneously or even first here) - @[email protected] and pop musicians, @markhamill and other actors. The leading fact-based journalists and their networks/sources are already here in good numbers.

  12. @couts - irony being that aggressive individuals rely on weak collective institutions to fail to stop them. If workers at were in a union, if the users had demanded Board representation (as many people as possible buy one share each and pool the voting rights?), would have picked a different site to acquire.

  13. @adamdavidson - don’t know the answer, and hoping the community will explore new solutions since we know what happened at . Personally, I’d bias towards verifiable truth, even when it is uncomfortable or challenging, and not force graphic audiovisual content on people without warning. And explore this community’s approach to and filtering. 🍀

  14. @adamdavidson can you share any details on how many servers are blocking your server? (fraction of all servers?, weighted by users?)

that might just be a design feature of the that some folks just want or need a “quiet room” as home server where the established standards of _lots_ of CWs are required.
