  1. Since March, we have held 18 in-depth interviews with protocol developers, auditors, educators, tool builders, and language designers.

In most of them, people read Core Solidity code for the first time in the playground and talked us through it.

  2. Algebraic data types and pattern matching were well received.

Documentation is the first thing people ask for once they have seen real code, and many did not know that Core Solidity runs on the existing solc backend.

  3. The interviews are still ongoing.

If you write, audit, teach or build tools for Solidity and think your feedback could shape Core Solidity, we would like to talk to you. Reach out to @_czepluch or write to coresolidity at argot dot org.

  4. We will be in Mumbai for @EFDevcon where we will do a Core Solidity workshop on the 5th of Nov.

We will also be presenting at @summit_defi on the 2nd of Nov

  5. Core Solidity is still a prototype and not meant for mainnet deployment.

Checked arithmetic, events, view and pure, and calls to other contracts through interfaces are among the things still missing or in progress. The post has the full list.

  6. You can try it in the playground, with runnable examples you can edit and call in the browser.

The escrow example is a good place to start:

    playground.solcore.soliditylan

  7. We published a status update on Core Solidity: what the language can do today, what is still missing, what the community told us, and what comes next.

  8. Core Solidity is a new frontend for solc, with a new type system and more of the language moved into a standard library.

From Yul onwards, the bytecode comes from the same optimizer and code generator that solc uses for Classic Solidity today.

  9. There is no inheritance. Contracts are composed from traits and modules, and only functions the author explicitly wraps become part of the public interface.

A deep dive on composition is coming in the next couple of weeks.

  10. Already in the language: algebraic data types with pattern matching and exhaustiveness checking, traits, generics, modules, compile-time evaluation and lambdas.
