  1. I was looking back at the work I did on my "maybe" tool last year, and it is actually pretty cool. github.com/pymander/maybe

  2. I just added (hopefully) cryptographically secure random number generation to "maybe". Anybody want to review the code? github.com/pymander/maybe

  3. @pymander @howard I've got #ironsword and the Delving book that goes with it but have never tried it. At this point I'm kinda stuck on DnD-adjacent rule systems. So #shadowdark, #adnd, #odnd, etc.

  4. @pymander @debacle @akib @[email protected] @[email protected]

    Looking forward to it!

(Full disclosure: I am biased towards , and I spoke about it in the 2020 EmacsConf: emacsconf.org/2020/talks/30/)

  5. @randyridenour @jameshowell @greg @pymander No kidding! It took me forever to get the #O365 auth flow worked out, but #pizauth worked wonders with #mu4e.

Granted, I don't use email with or via #emacs, as I don't yet quite trust I won't wind up deleting everything on the server side. Plus, I have not yet sorted out the whole "everybody in the organization uses outlook calendar".

  6. RE: fosstodon.org/@pymander/116381

Amen, brother! In #mu4e under #Emacs "The ability to write custom code to both process and create email is extremely powerful and a great time saver."

  7. Friday night watching the Phillies, drinking 🍷 and setting up #mu4e in #emacs pushed over the edge by @pymander and @jameshowell

Actually surprised I've never gone down this rabbit hole despite using emacs for decades.

  8. NERD DAD FRIDAY NIGHT WITH @greg

If I'm honest, there's a bit of faffing around to get #mu4e configured (see footnote¹). But golly, it sure is worth it.

Just being able to compose emails natively in #Emacs is very OHHHHHHhhhhh **THAT** FEELS BETTER

and then being able to capture Org tasks that link to messages is very UNLIMITED POWER!!!! (see figure)

and then over the next couple years gradually smoothing and polishing your email workflow with little customizations just exactly for little old you is very [wildebeest-levitating-in-blissful-meditation]

If I were to presume to provide advice it would be: consider it a gradual transition, and resolve to savor the process and enjoy each incremental improvement.

¹There's a separate binary, which requires a separate quirky compile-from-source installation and configuration. Like most Emacs mail clients, it relies on mbsync to sync local copies with your IMAP server. And then there are countless quirks in its UI, endlessly customizable in the good/bad way to which we are all accustomed.

  9. Okay so, about the #worldbuilding I said I was doing for #writing books and for running a #ttrpg. We're going to touch on #theology of the world here.

My world draws inspiration in part from Neverending Story/Discworld approaches in that some of the characters are aware of our world, they're creations of fiction within a story, and will break through the 4th wall on occasion due to that knowledge.

With that being said, there are multiple religions in this world but only one true religion and one "true" religion. The "true" religion will be the one that has the correct creation story for how the universe came to be, ala Christianity's it was made in seven days. vs the Greek's Gaia gave birth to the Sky who bore the Titans vs LOTR's Eru and singing Arda into existence, etc. I won't be revealing that here quite yet, I have a basic idea but need to hammer out the details. Then create a bunch of creation #myths for all the other belief systems and their associated God(s).

Although, the true religion being the religion that is aware of me, author/GM, and the actors, players. For that true religion I took some inspiration from #Morrowind CHIM theory and started with some sermons. I drew the wording from The Corpus Hermeticum: The Divine Pymander, a third century #occult manuscript (Psst, occult books are great for worldbuilding just fyi). Then changed the words ever so slightly to fit the meanings I wanted to covey in the sermons. Lil' snippet of the first two:

  11. I listened to this Music Student 101 episode about fully diminished 7th chords and it was a huge eye opener. These chords are like the easiest transition between keys, they feel like a music cheat code.

  17. Recently, a friend gave me a Magnus chord organ (probably a model 670), a funny electric reed instrument from the 1970s. It is a great instrument, like having a bunch of wheezy harmonicas at your beck and call. But it has made me think, the chord organ, with its left-hand chord buttons, would be great in a keytar format. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnus_H
