CW: "perverse incentives" in appointment booking
If I recall correctly, it was Tony Blair's lot who altered the landscape to create the "everybody has to ring at 8" phenomenon.
They introduced measuring surgeries on what percentage of people were able to get an appointment within the next 24 hours. So then the surgeries started gaming the ratings, by eliminating or drastically reducing the ability to book an appointment which _wasn't_ within the next 24 hours.
I remember seeing TB on a talk show (maybe it was Question Time?) where somebody in the audience pointed this out, and he was like "oh oops, we didn't know".
Never mind the fact that for some people, it's _better_ to book an appointment a few days ahead! (e.g. for transport, or getting time off work, or because you need to bring somebody with you.)

I made one of my best friends at a Motivational Interviewing conference in Sitges.She is Polish and was like me saving money by not staying in the conference hotel. Each evening we sat and talked over dinner in small beachfront restaurants. Ten years ago and it led to me supporting her in developing the Polish Society of Motivational Interviewing. A real honour for me
I hope you find such a person to share values and ideas over supper.

@purplepadma I am nominally entered for the #ThreeMinuteThesis compo, but will probably drop out this time because I was also accepted by the local PGR conference. #TMT/#3MT seems really good and has the lay audience thing. I practice on bar stewards when they ask me what I do!
